If you visit my hometown, you will find many tent stalls with an arrangement inside as seen in the photo. You can find it in various parts of the city. Almost all roads, except on the main road. Around public areas, stations, terminals or city corners.
On the angkringan train, there are 3 places boiled until boiling, next to it there are various snacks and simple side dishes, which are suitable for cooking by frying. Next is Angkringan’s main menu, which is “SEGO KUCING” which means cat rice, so named because the portions are very small and the side dishes are also a few pieces of spicy tempeh, or anchovies, or chicken flakes.
You can enjoy Angkringan menu as needed, while snacking or indeed hungry. If you are hungry, then maybe you will not be enough with 1 packet of cat rice. For drinks, Angkringan provides hot ginger powder with rock sugar, tea, oranges and traditional “tape” drinks.

Waduuu… jajan di angkringan, tuh, bahaya banget, Mbak @fafaguru .
Porsinya kecil-kecil, harga per itemnya juga murah-murah. Apalagi ada teman ngobrolnya juga.
Comot sana comot sini tanpa rasa bersalah. Tapi pas mau bayar, eh ternyata habisnya banyak juga. Ga jadi mau beli makanan berat di tempat lain. Hahaa…

the taste of rice is the same as ordinary, steamed rice. what distinguishes them is a side dish in it. If I get nasi kucing I’ll take a photo for you soon…
btw, What kind of simple food or meal typical from Thailand @Ant_Bad_Yogi ?

Fyi, @Ant_Bad_Yogi , here in Indonesia our domestic cat is eat rice same as its dad/mom. And the portion of the cat rice (nasi kucing) is the same as the rice that we give to our cat. Small portion.
For adult person, maybe they need 3 or 4 portion of this nasi kucing to feel full.
Sometimes nasi kucing is just ordinary steamed rice, with a little portion of side dishes like tofu and tempeh cooked with soy sauce. And a little bit of sambal.
But some other angkringan (hawker stall??) served rice that cooked with coconut milk. Or nasi lemak like in Malaysia.

@fafaguru I think street food in Thailand is almost the same as yours.

Rice in general cooked by boiled and then steam it. or if we used magic jar/rice cooker machine, it will take more simple process.
