An Ode to Google Maps Socks: The Places We've Gone!

In 2016, I started as a Local Guide on Google Maps. Fast forward to 2021, I joined the Connect community and I came across a post about Google Maps socks-- and a few months later, I got my own pair of those socks.

When those socks arrived, I was beyond excited! I treasured them and wanted to bring them along while I explored for Google Maps. Since then, those socks have traveled with me to more places than I can count. I’ve worn them on trails, at shopping malls, in libraries, and even on rainy days. They’ve been with me on journeys of discovery, and they’ve made my exploring all the more fun.

Being an “Exploreaholic”—my nickname—goes beyond just racking up points. It’s also about exploring new spots, finding hidden gems, and discovering things I never would have thought to check out. The Google Maps Local Guide program has opened my eyes to so much more than I ever expected, and has brought me joy through all the new experiences it’s led me to. Even when I was feeling low, Google Maps and Connect has brought sunshine to me. The socks are a symbol of that adventure, and I’m thankful for every new step they take with me. :blue_heart: :green_heart:

Oh the places these socks have gone in Arizona. :socks:
They’ve taken me up high – at A Mountain in Tempe.
And even higher at White Tank Mountain – a peaceful birds-eye view of Waddell.
And then down low at Papago Park in Phoenix.
They’ve taken me indoors through the Chandler Fashion Center mall at the holidays,
To the festive food court of Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe,
To the quiet corners of the Tempe Public Library,
To the galleries of Phoenix Art Museum,
To drives in Arizona,
To a slide in Kiwanis Playground in Tempe,
To another slide in Adora Trails Playground in Gilbert,
To a snack run at Safeway,
To more Sunday shopping at Food City.
The socks have been with me when it rained in Phoenix,
And when the sun shone in Spur Cross at Cave Creek.
They’ve been with on a trip to Queen Creek Marketplace,
To another trip to Tempe Marketplace.
They saw a sunset with me at Silly Mountain in Apache Junction,
And the evening night alit at Tempe Town Lake,
And also the sunrise at the Scenic Overlook in Superior.
And there’s so much more to see…
Like a historical hike to Dixie Mine in Scottsdale.
Oh, the places these socks will go!

I think it’s great when you get your socks like that. I just disposed of my socks after they were unused in the closet for years.

What a beautiful and inspiring post, @AZ_2021
I just wonder if it was you who carried those special socks around, or if it was the socks that led you to discover so many places. Well, in any case it seems to me that you are a perfect couple, made for each other.
We can only wait for new adventures.
Happy winter holidays

Great Post as always @AZ_2021 I love this idea of showing where they have been. I too was lucky enough to receive a pair. I do wear wear them in the summer time when we have decent weather and have had people comment on them. I hope it’s okay I have included a close up of them.

Thank you @LudwigGermany. When I first got them, I almost didn’t want to wear them to keep them in the best condition. I have had clothes too where they just sit in the closet, but this time I thought carpe diem and to just wear the socks. It was fun to wear them and explore around local areas.

I appreciate you @ShreyaMusings and @Ssiddharth2000 and also my kind @Shaunak. It is so fun to also make videos too of places I go to. Usually I’ll get photos and videos for Google Maps, and then I’ll record a longer video of particularly noteworthy places and upload to Youtube as well so I can have a video diary of places I’ve been to.
