An Authentic Bengali Feast at TiSwa’s Kitchen, Kolkata – A Taste of Tradition and Sustainability

Nestled in the heart of Kolkata’s iconic Park Street, TiSwa’s Kitchen is more than just a restaurant—it’s a cultural experience. For anyone craving the rich, soulful flavors of authentic Bengali cuisine, this is a place that truly delivers. As someone who has visited multiple times for lunch, I can confidently say the food here doesn’t just satisfy your hunger—it tells a story.

:sparkles: A Culinary Journey through Bengal

TiSwa’s Kitchen specializes in traditional Bengali fare, served with warmth and authenticity. Each visit here has been a delightful gastronomic experience, with flavors that remind you of home-cooked meals, lovingly prepared with attention to detail.

Recently, I had the opportunity to indulge in their Non-Veg Jamai Shoshti Thali, a special offering on the occasion of Jamai Shoshthi—a Bengali festival that celebrates the son-in-law with elaborate meals and heartfelt hospitality. And true to tradition, TiSwa’s Kitchen made the occasion extra special.

:pot_of_food: The Jamai Shoshti Thali – A Feast Fit for Royalty

What immediately stood out was the presentation. The entire thali—plates, bowls, glasses—was crafted from mud (earthenware), staying true to Bengal’s rural roots. This added an earthy charm and elevated the dining experience to another level.

The thali was a generous spread that included:

  • Aam Porar Shorbot (Raw Mango flavoured sweet-sour water)
  • Mutton DakBunglow (Goat Meat cooked with spices in Mustord oil)
  • Chicken Gondhoraj (Chicken cooked in flavour of Gondhoraj lemon )
  • Begun Bhaja (Fried eggplant)
  • Shukto (vegetable medley with bitter gourd)
  • Basanti Pulao & Luchi
  • Chutney & Papad
  • Mishti Doi (sweet curd) and traditional Sandesh
  • Mango
  • Pan (betel)

Each item was richly flavorful, perfectly spiced, and cooked to perfection. The combination of textures and tastes was well-balanced and satisfying. The use of earthenware enhanced the aroma of the food—especially the rice and curries—adding a rustic, nostalgic feel that reminded me of village festivities.

#:herb: Sustainability Meets Tradition sustainability

One of the most commendable aspects of TiSwa’s Kitchen is its commitment to sustainability. The use of eco-friendly, mud-based utensils not only supports local artisans but also reduces plastic and non-biodegradable waste. These earthen pots are not just aesthetic; they help retain the natural flavor and temperature of food, offering both environmental and culinary benefits.

In a time when sustainability is more important than ever, TiSwa’s Kitchen beautifully blends tradition with responsibility.

The interior is comfortable, with well-spaced seating and good ventilation.

:speech_balloon: Final Thoughts

Everything is fine @NandKK but Nand, did you notice one thing in your sustainability restaurant tour? “No, let me tell you.The restaurant owner has kept the price of both veg and non-veg thali the same.Because the one who eats vegetarian food will definitely eat veg food and the one who eats non-veg and vegetarian food will eat as per his wish.In this way he will keep both types of customers (vegetarian/non-vegetarian) happy as per the price.
Anyway thanks for sharing with us :handshake:
