An attempt to remove private/hedden photos

@WilfriedB @TerryPG @AdamGT
Hi all, figured i would tag some of the usuals. Anyone is welcome to chime in. I just did an experiment to test a theory I had about hidden photos. It did not work, but the idea i thought interesting enough to share. I believe we touched on this idea a few months back.

I decided to go through all of my photos by date order, and hunt for those which had NO ADDRESS listed. I am not sure how this happens to photos, but perhaps maps removes the location, then resets it, and those photos original tagged to that location show up with no address. I found around 50 of mine attached to no address.

What did i do? I deleted them all. I thought perhaps these might be hidden photos. I deleted approximately 800,000 views. I did not care since i was trying to find out if this theory worked. It did not! So 50 photos gone, 800k views gone, but i thought it worth trying.

Funny thing…when i went into incognito mode, to check, i gad somehow managed to lose more photos to being private. I think i started with about 135 hidden, now around 160 hidden. Lol. Maps us very frustrating sometimes!

Any thoughts or ideas welcome. Thx

From my understanding, @StevenBerlin your first conclusion was correct: Google or more likely a user deleted a place and it appears to you now as “Unknown Place”.

According to my experience however, it doesn’t necessarily mean those were all hidden photos. Some yes, but not all of them.

Regarding:

No idea for now.

One question for you @StevenBerlin! Do you use the Leaderboard System’s Stats Summary Report?

I’m not clear in my thoughts as to this, but any deleting I’ve done has been based on zero-views or low counts on photos. Did your photos with No Address (or Unknown Place) actually have very high views? Losing 800,000 views over photos that didn’t need to be deleted was probably not the best course of action.

Completely agree with you @WilfriedB

No. I have not. I am not sure what it does. Will try to check it out.

Well i have a ton of views, so i didn’t care about that. Like i saide, i was more interested if this would remove private photos. I really thought it would and seemed odd to leave photos in maps that had no address or nit attached to a business. A few of them were over 100k views, but since i removed 40 or so, it was around 800k. I feel good about my idea, but i didn’t work. That’s ok though.

I can see this topic was not helpful at all, and counterproductive. Sorry about that. I will try to figure out how to delete it.

Don’t worry @StevenBerlin it is always helpful to discuss some ideas. Don’t even try to delete the thread :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

@StevenBerlin as @WilfriedB said, there’s no need to delete your topic.

Thanks for clarifying @StevenBerlin

My count of hidden photos and hidden reviews is usually so low that I don’t worry about it, but with everyone writing posts about it, I still read and try to understand.
