AN AGE-OLD RIVALRY - GHANAIAN JOLLOF RICE? or NIGERIAN JOLLOF RICE?

:blush: :grinning: :see_no_evil: :hear_no_evil: :speak_no_evil: :monkey_face:

What is a Rivalry?

According to Wikipedia;

“A rivalry is the state of two people or groups engaging in a lasting competitive relationship.”

So, what is Nigeria? She is a Country. What is Ghana? She is a country.

Where are the two countries located? West Africa, in fact, they are neighbors :grin:

What is … ?

I am sure by now you are already bored and wondering what all of these is about. The truth is; I am just trying to buy time, to ensure my body guards and dearest friends on ‘CONNECT’ arrive before the two rival parties; The Ghanaians and the Nigerians arrive, the two West African neighbors that have a rivalry that stemmed from something as simple as food.

You may think it’s funny until, you watch or read the argument threads online or on social media platforms like; Twitter.

If you are a visitor to the West African region and manage to visit these two countries; please anticipate this question;

WHO HAS THE BETTER JOLLOF RICE; NIGERIA OR GHANA?

What we call Jollof rice in Nigeria and Ghana is in fact what is called ‘Fried Rice’ in the West. What we call Fried Rice in Nigeria is a variety of the Chinese Rice.

Where did this Rivalry stem from? Who started it? who has the best Jollof Rice? I can’t tell.

I love Jollof Rice especially with fried plantain and salad and some moimoi, when possible. :yum:

It is a staple at most big celebrations and parties in Nigeria, so, if you plan on visiting Nigeria, you really do not need to make any special plans towards having your Jollof Rice, you will surely have a taste before you leave.

As it is with every food, the taste of the Jollof Rice depends on the chef.

Yesterday, I had my Jollof Rice with fried plantain, one boiled egg, one ‘smoked’ fish, and some vegetable.

Now, you are smiling :blush: , tag all your Nigerian and Ghanaian friends in the comment section, I will be reading the comments and contributing as much as I can. :v:
