It was an epic moment as local guides @Onukakalu, @Reginald_chika, @ObinnaA, and @ikchibundu embarked on accessibility walk this morning within the Amuwo metropolis. Our aim was to have an all inclusive accessibility for businesses located within the Amuwo Odofin axis on the google map.
Prior to this walk we were able to identify that some of the businesses located in Amuwo odofin were not on google map. Moreover, some on google map we found out do not have detailed reviews or have information that needs to be updated as this makes accessibility on google map very difficult. Hence we can say that the motivating factor behind this accessibility walk is that business in Amuwo Odofin should be well represented on the google map. Also, that there should be an all inclusive accessibility both for the able and the disabled or physically challenged without discrimination.
However, before I proceed I will like to give us a brief insight about Amuwo Odofin. It is a cosmopolitan town with a population of about two (2) million people and land mass of about 100q.km. The town is located in Lagos mainland. It is a historic city as it is home to the popular Festival of Art and culture (Festac) town. It boasts of good road network with wheelchair accessible pedestrian sidewalks at both side of the roads. The roads are interconnected for easy accessibility and navigation. Amuwo Odofin has the best housing estates in Lagos like Durbar estate, Diamond estate, Apple Estate, Green estate, co operation estate, Raji Rasaki to mention but a few. It also boasts of the well planned Amuwo industrial estate which is home to some major industries and businesses.
In addition it is also home to some of the best and major brands and businesses like ABC transport plc, Diamond Bank, Villa Park, De Santiago Milan hotel, Mega chicken, Clinix, Shoprite, Dstv, Domino pizzas, Guarantee Trust Bank and a host of others. Now you know why Amuwo is very important to google map. Hence, putting all these great brands on google map will increase accessibility and also help people to locate the business of their choice within Amuwo Odofin.
Now back to our accessibility walk we assembled at ABC transport Plc, from where we move along Alakoso Avenue. Here we have Dofa limited, ideal standard, Diamond bank etc. And from there we headed towards the popular Festac access road and moved right. On this same road there are many businesses both big and small like Ascort Hotels, MRS oil, De Santiago Milan Hotel, Ibiza, Panama, mega chicken etc.
Immediately we got to apple junction we turned right and moved along the Ago palace road. And on this road there is a high concentration of businesses like clinix, Noble furniture, Apple hall event center, Auto-reg office, Tom tan oil, Rafann furniture, and the Guarantee Trust Bank. We were able to map them out. Finally, we ended the accessibility walk at Guarantee Trust Bank from where we hope to continue in our subsequent accessibility walk.
In conclusion we were able to achieve an all inclusive accessibility (one accessibility) for all on the google map with discrimination.
