American Samoa #StateChallenge Study guide Meet-up and Trivia Quiz

What do you know about American Samoa? It’s in the South Pacific!! What do you want to know?

…and the HOST for American Samoa? Our one and only @jayasimha78 !!!

The currently posted articles

  1. “Football Island” American Samoa #StateChallenge @jayasimha78
  2. “Heart of Polynesia” American Samoa Fun Facts #StateChallenge @jayasimha78

There are a lot of good questions hidden in these posts! Time to study up! …and our weird laws and customs for America Samoa???

  1. It’s a crime to forget your wife’s birthday
  2. In a Samoan home, don’t talk to people while standing, and don’t eat while walking around a village.
  3. Avoid stretching your legs straight out in front of you while sitting. If you can’t fold them beneath you, then pull one of the floor mats over them.
  4. If you are driving through a village and spot a group of men sitting around a fale with their legs folded, it’s probably a gathering of matais to discuss business. It’s polite not to drive past the meeting place. If going past on foot, don’t carry a load on your shoulders or an open umbrella.
  5. If you arrive at a Samoan home during a prayer session, wait outside until the family is finished with its devotions. If you are already inside, you will be expected to share in the service. If you go to church, don’t wear flowers.
  6. Samoan tattoos are unique symbols representing an individual’s faith and family ties. They also communicate status or respect within a community. The process of getting a tatau is long and painful, making the act of getting one a deeper reflection of an individual’s devotion to the community.
  7. Many cultural events and even daily life are centered around food and feasts. Local cuisine includes a lot of coconut milk and cream. On Sunday mornings, many families cook on a Samoan umu, an above-ground stone oven. Staples such as breadfruit, taro, coconuts, bananas, fish, chicken, and pork all play a leading role in Samoan meals, the everyday and celebratory meals alike.
  8. For a wedding, Samoan couples do not expect gifts from their guests. Instead, they are the ones that give out the gifts, based on the social status of their guests. In Samoan culture, this gift-giving helps the couple instantly begin to establish themselves as a new family in their community.

More details of the challenge are here.

Meet-up Format

To join the trivia game online during the meet-up, you will go to https://game.playfactile.com/join and then enter the pin number provided at meet-up time.

…AND at the end of the game, there is a FINAL QUESTION. The point value of the final question is based on a wager that you make!

- You will determine how much of your points you want to risk.
- If you answer correctly, the wagered value will automatically be added to your score.
- If you answer incorrectly, the wagered value will be manually subtracted from your score.
- PREVIOUS WINNERS: All previous winners MUST wager at least the number of their handicap/deficit points. See table below.
- WINNER(S): If a previous winner is the top winner, the next non-previous winner will ALSO be crowned.
- EXAMPLE(S):
- If you have 2000 points and your handicap is 600, then your minimum wager is 600.
- If you have 2000 points and you wagered 2000, and you answered correctly, you would have 4000 points at the end.
- If you have 2000 points and you wagered 2000, and you answered incorrectly, you would have ZERO points at the end.
- This approach enables previous winners a way to win AND new players to win as well!

How do you participate? Here’s a How-to Guide! Thanks to @AdrianLunsong!

In an effort to make sure that all attendees have a chance to become the KING/QUEEN of the featured state, we have decided to give all former Trivia Kings and Queens a deficit of “-200” points for each time they have previously won 1st place.

  1. This should give those who haven’t won before a better chance
  2. Provide some additional challenge to those who have won before

Here are our previous winners and their current deficits.

All credits goes to you and @jayasimha78
