Do you use vending machines? Using a vending machine is the easiest way to get beverages in Japan. You don’t need to use Japanese, just pay and push a button. There are many vending machines anywhere in Japan, and they are really convenient and awesome. This time, I will introduce how they are awesome and some surprising facts as a post of #monthlytopic of Jan 2021.
1. You can find them anywhere
When you want to use vending machines in Japan, in most cases, you will be able to find them within 10 mins. You don’t need to enter a facility, you need to just look around such as roadsides. There are over 2.4 million vending machines for only beverages in Japan.
2. They don’t mistake
At least, I have never seen them mistake the change, the number of products. They will count money exactly and put out the beverage that you chose.
3. Unique machines
There are various unique vending machines in Japan. Not only cold beverages, serving hot beverages (together with cold beverages!) or soups like miso-soup is common. The types of machines are also various, touch panel types that can accommodate multi languages, low types that are easy for wheelchair users or children, and so forth. There is an amazing freshly brewed coffee vending machine that grinds coffee beans and brews a cup of coffee right in front of you too.
Have you tried them? When you have a chance to go to Japan, please keep an eye on unique vending machines as well.
Option: There are some more surprising vending machines here. Hot foods, cup noodles, alcohol, and even cigarettes too. The people who have come to Japan, have you ever seen them?

@HiroyukiTakisawa I miss vending machines in Japan. I like that you can use suica card to pay for the drinks, and the machine sometimes even dispense hot drinks. There’s no such thing here in US haha. Counting down the days until I can visit Japan again!

Hahaha, I know the curry vending machine. Of course, I have seen it in the past but I can’t find it in my region nowadays. Btw, my recommended old food vending machines are the hamburger (burger) vending machine and the udon vending machine. They are awesome (but I can’t assure the taste)!
I’ve never seen a vending machine for burger @HiroyukiTakisawa that’s very interesting. I’ve seen vending machines for cigarettes, and for some other stuff that’s probably not appropriate to be listed here lol.

I remember during my first semester of college I discovered an area on campus where there was a row of about 6-7 vending machines, and I thought to myself "this must be what vending machine heaven looks like! " From hot coffees to sodas and snacks, I thought it had it all.
Then I was exposed to the vending machines in Japan and I realized there truly lies a vending machine heaven.
I love that they’re everywhere and provide such convenience - I’ve noticed less vending machines where I live and feel that it is so rare to see one nowadays. Even at my workplace there were no vending machines, instead there is a mini convenience store.

The wide range of things you can get from vending machines in Japan is quite legendary and people I know who have visited Japan often send home photos of the things they find in the machines. What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen available from a machine @HiroyukiTakisawa ?
To tell you the truth, I can’t decide the weirdest one because there are tons of weird vending machines in Japan. There are even a miso soup and potage vending machine as well, can you believe that?
So I want to introduce this one. This is one of the functional and interesting coffee vending machines.
This vending machine measures the proper amount of selected coffee beans and grinds them fits the selected depth. Of course, it controls the temperature of hot water properly too, and changes the nell filter (it is installed like a roll paper) automatically. The pouring is polite like an accustomed coffee shop staff.

Coffee machine vending machines are here too @HiroyukiTakisawa . We used to have soup machines but I’ve not seen one for a long time, they gave out cup-a-soup metred out into a cup with a dose of hot water.
I’ve seen a coffee making robot too once, you ordered through an app, watched it make the coffee and charge your credit card a ridiculous fee.
