Hoover Dam is the greatest dam I have ever seen. The 700-hundred-foot-tall concrete dam situated near Boulder City, on the border of two American states – Nevada and Arizona. The distance from Las Vegas is about 30 miles. I visited this dam in May 2018, two years ago exactly, and I really impressed by this amazing construction.
Hoover Dam was built by 1936, but it looks impressive even now. It is open for visiting. There are two guided tours there. One of them is a tour of the power plant only and it is short, about 30 minutes. Another tour is longer, and it includes the dam itself and power plant, as well. Unfortunately, I could not take a guided tour because of my short visit, but I would do that if I had more time.
Anyway, I had two stops close to the dam. I went upstairs from the first parking lot to the new modern Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. It is the world’s tallest concrete arch bridge, from where you can enjoy amazing view of Hover Dam and take the best shots of this marvelous site. By the way, the bridge is 880 feet higher than the dam; therefore, it is the best lookout point there. After that, I had a drive on the dam itself and left a car on the other side of the Colorado River. I went back to the dam and enjoyed the picturesque view of Lake Mead, the new bridge and Hover Dam itself.
