Aman Singh Palace and Archaeological Museum.

Aman Singh Mahal, Kalinjar Fort, Kalinjar, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Kalinjar Fort is famous for its antiquity. Researchers found many proofs relevant to its existence. Among number of religious and secular structures located in the Kalinjar Fort one is the palace of Raja Aman Singh.

This palace is situated near Kot Tirth and it was built in 1745-55 AD. This double storyed rectangular building built of undressed stones with lime mortar. In the eastern portion, there is courtyard; eastern and southern portion of the Mahal have rooms, while in northern side, the remains of two- storeyed corridor hall still exists. The eastern and western parts of the palace are connected by a corridor with an entrance gateway. Inside the palace, there is spacious courtyard having corridor on three sides. The palace is lime plastered and is decorated with beautiful floral and geometrical designs. Rooms on the second floor are damaged. The main entrance of the palace exhibits the Mughal architecture. The central entrance is an Iwan with a multifoil pointed arch and flanked with hanging balconies and windows. Latticed screens are provisioned on the upper floor.
Presently it’s housing the sculptures and antiques recovered from different parts of the fort are preserved in this building and serving as an Archaeological Museum. I could not visit this palace as it was not open due to the shortage of manpower.
