Am I weird that I didn't know what Local Guides were until recently...? :-O

Ok, full disclosure…I really had no idea what Local Guides were until I got the email telling me about the Local Guides Connect event that’s happening in November. My first thought was, “Hmmm…this is interesting. Who knew all these questions I’ve been answering were actually helping people…?” Regardless, my interest was piqued, and if you’re reading this, you know the deal and what this is all about. (And for the record, I think it’s great!)

A piece of advice I like to give others (usually unsolicited but it’s meant to be helpful and supportive) is to “give without expecting anything in return.” (I’m sure someone else said that somewhere else along the way so apologies if I’m not giving credit where it’s due.) This seems to be what Google Local Guides is about…people wanting to actually be helpful because they’re just good people. I try to be a good person and if this is one way to do it, by golly, I’ll do it! ?

What I care about sharing:

My contributions have typically been about the places I go most often and interestingly enough, that’s “outside” as I work from home. I personally like/need to get out of the house every day and I’m very fortunate I live close to a lot of great “wikes” (that’s “walks” and “hikes” combined into my own made-up word). As part of more actively sharing, I’m trying to share my favorite places that are outside. Currently, I’m only able to list them and that’s a start, but I’ll be damned if I don’t figure out how to actually make them more interesting with photos!

Why I share:

I want to encourage people to get outside and see the world we live in…encourage people to look up and down - and not stare at our phones all day. Photos say so much more than words…don’t you think? Getting out into the open air does’t cost anything besides time - which I might add is time well spent! I’m trying to add photos to my list and I’m hitting a wall using my phone. Bummer. ? Some of the photos are below taken from different vantage points. I want to show people what they might see if they take the time to get out!

We’re all trying to help one another and I like that it’s a two-way street here with the Local Guides community. I’ll try to help where I can as well but like the title says, I didn’t even know this existed until recently; therefore, I’m still learning a bit myself. Bear with me friends…I’ll get there soon!

Cheers and thanks for reading! Happy guiding, everyone!
