All reviews not showing publicly

My reviews are not showing publically and I would like to know why? Please explain.

Can you let us know if this is happening with some of your reviews or all of them?

What if you switched devices - like using a computer or phone?

And what about other contributions like photos?

Let us know a bit more so we can figure out what is going on for you :slight_smile:

The one I noticed it one was a review I left for Change Incorporated in St Louis, MO. But now that I have searched it seems many of my last reviews are not able to be viewed publicly. Please explain.

Can I still get some help with this? Devices donā€™t matter. I am seeing many of them not showing. I can see them when I look in my reviews but no one else can see them.

Sorry for the delayed reply @dillonalexander82 . In the future, best to tag me by using the ā€œ@ā€ so that Iā€™ll see the notification, looks like I missed it previously.

Can you let us know how many reviews youā€™re missing? Is it all of them, some of them or a handful? Is there any particular pattern?

Also, what about other contributions such as photos?

The policies found on this page also applies to reviews. If there is any chance that your review was flagged for one of these reasons, may be flagged accidentally, it could be one of the reason that it is not public.

As stated in my first response, the review that was brought to my attention was for Change Incorporated, which I left a week ago. I can see ALL of my reviews through maps.google under contributions because they are mine. Others cannot see them in a public forum. It appears to be all of them because any place I search for has all of my text removed from the review I have done for them. As an admin canā€™t look this up yourself? Please advise.

Hi @dillonalexander82 - Connect Moderators are actually volunteers, and we donā€™t have special privilege to monitor other Local Guides contributions. Can you share the link to your Maps contributions? Thatā€™s the only way others will be able to view your contributions. When you go to your Contributions page on Maps, you should see a series of digits in your URL. For example, this is mine:

https://www.google.com/maps/contrib/108347904384031658715

It would be very helpful if you can provide yours so we can take a look whatā€™s going on.

Thank you for explaining the dynamic of your role. I appreciate the volunteer aspect, but my first question is can I actually speak to a Google employee about this at some point? That is what I thought I was pursuing and I would like to do that at some point. I still really appreciate your help, but I have read the policies/rules and do not feel I am in direct violation of anything and would like to express my dissatisfaction to Google directly.

@dillonalexander82 I totally understand your concern for trying to reach a Google employee. As of now, letā€™s try to take a look at this ourselves, and we can try to escalate the issue if itā€™s really necessary :slight_smile:

So I looked at your profile, and the last review thatā€™s visible to me is the review you left for Sunset Hills Country Club. So you if you wrote more reviews after that, it doesnā€™t look like itā€™s being published. Can you please check your review page and see if there are any recent reviews that are marked as ā€˜Privateā€™? If thatā€™s the case, then the review will need to be adjusted. I canā€™t say what needs to be change unless I see the actual review, but we can worry about that later. For now letā€™s try to make sure if your recent reviews are indeed being marked as ā€˜Privateā€™.

I have many more reviews than that. A total of 160. I do not see anywhere indicating that it is private. I have provided a screenshot.

Any update on this? Over 40 of my reviews are still not showing. If it is something you are unable to further assist with, can you please let me know who to contact next?

@dillonalexander82 I escalated it and someone from the team is currently looking into it. I donā€™t have a definite timeline though, but Iā€™ll try to touch base from time to time.

@iyudhi It has been a week now. I know you said you escalated it to someone and there was no definite time frame, but can you provide me their information so I may contact them myself. This ongoing issue is something I intend to see through until I have an adequate response. Thank you again for your help so far.

At this time your case is being reviewed along with other users who have reported the same issue. These investigations often take some time to debug or un-package so we really appreciate your patience in the matter. For some general background information, reviews may be marked private by Google Maps if they donā€™t adhere to Contributed Content policy for Google Maps. The algorithms always undergo changes and revamps to make sure we arenā€™t taking down reviews improperly but that is always a work in progress due to things like differences in languages for example (a normal word in one language could be a curse in another). Your reviews may be perfectly fine of course but weā€™ll need backend teams to dig deeper.

Weā€™ll look to circle back with all Local Guides experiencing this issue once we get an answer on our investigation. Thanks for holding!
