Hi dear @CAAG1959

You mentioned important things to be stopped because the spirit of our volunteer activity is to help people not such things like earning money.

About the bad profiles, those trying to promote themselves by following us, as I figured out Google made some decisions and in the following months, we see fewer such profiles.

And about the perks that some users trying to sell, I think Google could stop giving themes randomly and it is even better to select users based on the Connect activity, not anything else.

Most users who actively contribute on Connect are well familiar with the real goal of contributions and it will be rare to do such a wrong activity and try to earn money by contributions.

I like to agree with you on the discontinuation of commercialization of local guide emblems / paraphernalia if it is done by google.

happy guiding @CAAG1959

Hola @MrFreez NO IMPORTA QUIEN LAS COMERCIALICE, NI GOOGLE, NI NADIE.

You are right @CAAG1959 this is very distasteful and appalling.
However if it is a private individual producing and selling them, how much control can google or the local guides community have over such

Thank you for tagging me in this post @CAAG1959 .

@MrFreez , @HUMBERTO_V , @Amiran I fully agree with you, and I am trying to do my best to stop this kind of bad experiences. I can tell you that one of my post in Connect was Spammer, welcome to Connect - Please READ before posting , where I wanted to ask to the spammers why they were doing it. I was wasting my time but it was worth to try.

In 2019 I asked Google (unheard) to Change the minimum requirement for being a Local Guide from ZERO to ONE point , to avoid to have all this profiles with no contributions identified as “Local Guides”. Now I will probably say “from Zero to 50”.

In 2020 I asked that the Profile of Followers should be automatically visible for the followed profiles . The aim was to avoid most of the inappropriate contents that we see now in Maps and Connect.

In this moment I am much more relaxed about these fake accounts, and I think that Connect can be a kind of honey trap for them: Tracking back them you will probably find fake reviews, and the businesses that are using the “services” of this fake profiles. I just made a check on some fake account (they are apparently invading Connect with likes on our posts) and I was able to find a series of Fake reviews on the same businesses.

So let Google use their arrogance for cleaning Maps

Dear @ErmesT I find your post on ROI of spammers effort very interesting and you are absolutely correct even now after 7 year of making that post

Every good local guide should in their own way do the most to take down bad contents from the maps by reporting same.

Hello @CAAG1959 ,

yes, I totally agree with you.

I can’t understand the commercialisation of perks.

And I find it so disgusting what these Google Maps spam accounts as you shared are posting.

They litter Google Maps. :disappointed_relieved:

Unfortunately, there are many of them who are sending me requests for following me on Google Maps.

I always report and block them all.

I suggest that the Google Maps team could implement a filter and such profiles should be not only get suspended from the Google Local Guides program, such profiles should be blocked, completely removed from the system and excluded.

On some social media platforms this is already possible that accounts can be removed completely.

Thank you very much for sharing this post and also for tagging me.

I wish you a great day!

Many warm greetings to you from Hamburg, Germany! :grinning: :star2: :de:
