The reason why first started using local guides and started contributing on google maps was Albania.
For those who doesn’t know Albania. Albania is small country in South east of Europe that offers you an amazing nature to explore. This country has much more to offer than only the nature. The culture, the language the people, the history all of it very interesting to explore.
By being a small county and for lot of years under the communist influence not a lot of people know Albanian and not lot of people are interested into visiting it. in the recent years this thing has changed and more and more tourists are coming to visit it.
At the beginning i stated to contribute in google maps for 2 reasons:
-
to promote my country to tourists
-
to help and improve orientation for locals
I have come to conclusions that this was a great way to promote Albania not only by me but by thousand of other local guides doing the same here.
Now my mission has changed. Of course i sill want to promote Albania but since the number of tourists has grown i want to help them navigate easier in my country respond to their questions and help them in any way possible how they help me when i travel abroad.
There are thousand of places that i can start to describe it for you here but i will choose only 5 of them and call them: “Hidden Gems of Albania”.
I would like to start with the mos recent one that i went to:
1. Gjipe bay.
Gjipe bay is a small beach in the south of Albania located between Dhermi and Vuno. There is the canyon of Gjipe that offers an amazing view and relaxing environment where u can feel the nature. Gjipe bay is a great place where to escape from crowded city and to relax during a weekend.
2. Cape of RodonCape of Rodon is a rocky cape on Adriatic sea in the north of Durres. On the cape is the Rodoni Castle build by Skenderbeg. The road you follow to go to the castle is vety fantastic and by the end when you are at the top of the cape the view is so amazing that it lets you breathless. This place offers you the everything the nature the sea the history.
3. Bovilla LakeThe lake of Bovilla lies on the northeastern side of Tirana, between two mountain ranges. This destination offers you the opportunity to do hiking and climbing in the rocks. The view from above is impressive. There is e big field where u can do picnic or camping there.
4. Lumi i Shales (Shala River)
Shala is a river flowing inside the Albanians Alp in northern Albania, near the village Theth. To go there you have to take a boat at Coman lake and travel through the water for around 2 hours until u arrive at a place called Park Bliri. When stooping there u have the opportunity to do camping taking a coffee or swim in the river if the weather is warm.
5. Canyon of Holta
Holta Canyon was created by the erosion of the river Holta. Silence and echoes, lush greenery hanging from the slopes above you and beautiful blue waters caressing your feet and creating small waterfalls along the way. A bit further, thermal waters where you can relax for a moment of your journey.
