‘Airport diaries’ is an interesting series started by Guiding Star local guide @Pratik_89
I love airports and have been to dozens of them in many countries. What I loved about Mactan International is at how interconnected terminals are with departure gates. After checking in, you head through immigration to your departure gate; on the same floor. No need for elevators and escalators. 5-minute walk in total to departure gates for international flights.
Other things to note:
Reaching Mactan International is so convenient. Very little traffic at drop-off points for Departures.
Souvenir shops are located right next to the entrance to the airport doors so quick last-minute shopping.
The best part of the airport is the coffee shops and restaurants offering high-quality food. This is a tiny airport with everything to offer. Lounges are located one floor down and elevators connect directly to the lounge. Huge restrooms with access for all sexes.
Even the regular waiting areas have outlets by the advert digital displays. Strong free airport Wi-Fi. Wide open airy and spacy tiny airport with huge windows and views of airplanes.
Arrivals is a hectic chaotic mess. Make sure to change currency into pesos as quickly as possible. DO NOT change currency denominations into bills over 500 pesos! Always change currency into 50 pesos notes. Most businesses will be reluctant to break large bills. Most taxis carry a maximum of 500 pesos for change. DO NOT RELY on international credit cards here. Most businesses will not accept them.
I was very impressed with their on-site doctor’s office. We had a minor medical emergency there and the doctor got everything straightened out quickly and we still managed to catch our flight.
Thank you for your comments. Another reason this airport is so good. Had no idea there was an on-site clinic. Did you have insurance or had to pay cash for your treatment? I was so happy just to have a Burger King near that lounge area that sold one pint Heineken beers.
I don’t think I had to pay anything for the treatment, nor did they ask for insurance. The clinic office was near the restrooms in the far right corner in the back.
Let’s just say that we learned not to assume bottled water is always safe in the Philippines.
Hi @TusharSuradkar Thank you for your nice words. Yes. A lot of the reviews of places focus only on the good parts of a country instead of the necessary things. Currency conversion is important in this country.

Hi @Pratik_89 Thank you. The weather was nice on that day and the airport was not so busy, so took a few simple pictures. Thank you for organizing this very interesting challenge.
