There is a fantastic art installation in Barcelona called “The world begins with every kiss”. It is a huge picture of two people kissing comprised of hundreds of small tiles placed to create the larger image.
I wrote a 200 word review and added an image of the complete view I used the image with the woman in the foreground. The review was not posted and a message identifying that there was a copyright issue was added to the review. At the same time I uploaded other images and a video. As you can see below, all the static images hav e not been accepted but the video has - it has been seen nearly 5,000 times!
I took some stills from the video and used these instead of the original image, but this was blocked too. I have only just found time to post this and I have now discovered the review appears to have been deleted completely, and is no longer available for me to edit
I have just checked again and it appears that the listing that I posted to was in English and this may have been removed as a duplicate to the Spanish titled listing.
By their very nature, your photos appear pixelated however, the message reads that the review doesn’t follow the Maps content policies so I’d start by adding here the full text of your review.
In the meantime, I would start off by rating the exhibition and adding a review without photos.
I also recommend that you delete the reference to your business in your profile name to avoid the risk of being shadowbanned altogether.
The review was again not posted but the error message was less generic. THere was a button to submit an appeal but no text box to add a message. So I am hoping a human with a sensible head will take a look and let it be posted.
The policy violation was to do with sexually explicit content. I have appealed the review but there doesn’t appear to be anyway to appeal the photos. Can you suggest something for this?
Just to clarify the correct listing is now El món neix en cada besada which already contains exactly the same imagery.
@ErmesT once reported that it can take weeks before all photos show up after pins have been merged. That might explain what you are seeing.
Secondly, you might not be aware that taking photos of artists’ and photographers’ work might be an issue. I speculate that photographing art pieces in context (where you see some of the surroundings) could be OK, but you are also sharing pics of details. This might also be the problem. Finally having a recognizable woman in one of your shots is an unwanted distraction for seeing the place.
It’s worth being aware of the information provided by @ErmesT , but I’m pretty confident that this is not the case here - apart from the video maybe which had already been seen 4,800 times. The same video is of course now blocked after reuploading it.
I reposted images, video and a review onto the alternative listing. These were blocked again. All of the content that has been blocked already exists on the listing in terms of the issues that you have raised about copyright issues and detail. After uploading to the dominant listing the reason changed to the content being “sexually explicit”. This is the AI being completely overzealous. It is two people kissing. I have been able to request a review of the review… but how do I get the images reviewed? In terms of details of the images. This is an artwork in which people have submitted their images to the artist for public display. THe woman in the picture is intended to match up to the fact that to get a clear image of the wall can be very difficult because of the number of people who want to stand in front of it to have their picture taken - I submitted a picture without the woman as a photo on its own.
Sorry for being so late in replying, @nigelfreeney , @MortenCopenhagen . I’m quite busy in renovating my small house in the Alps, and I’m offline most of the time.
When you post a photo attached to a review, and an apparent violation of the rules is detected, both the review and the attached photos are removed.
When you send an appeal both contributions (text of the review and attached photos) are verified by an operator, then everything is usually released (or kept private).
Regarding Copyright I don’t see any issue on that side. The picture (the mosaic) is on a public road, and if there is a copyright issue the Street View from Google Maps should be removed too
Same regarding the Sexually Explicit content, otherwise we should report Google’s photo too.
The only issue that I really see is that your video has not been removed from the old listing.
I am quite confident that the review will be release.
Please be aware that, once the review is released, the photos may need some more day to become public again. The reason is related to the way Google store the content, so that several servers around the world need to be synchronized.
During that transitory period, if you click on the photo or the video from your profile on desktop you will see the following message
Thanks for your reply and explanation. Of course if I had considered using Street View to backup my position then this would have been a more straightforward discussion. It’s good to be reminded how to keep things simple.
However the edit will not be applied till the two listings have a different name, a different address and a different position. So some preliminary edit is necessary, before to try a merge.
Thanks for the reassurance and description of the process of appeal from @ErmesT . After 6 working days the review was released without ceremony or an alert email.
I reread the review and realised I needed to make a couple of corrections in the review text. I was mistakenly under the illusion that the pictures/video that had already been reviewed in the appeal would be marked as safe…
But no, changing the text was as if none of the images had been checked and I have to appeal again. This does seem like a waste of time for the reviewer and the appeal checkers. Is there any way to give feedback about the appeal process?
Also, would it not make sense for a public work of art to be marked as such - it seems incredibly heavy handed to effectively mark this as pornography when it is clearly two people kissing.
As @ErmesT had pointed out in a previous reply, the street view imagery clearly shows the image in full:
I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to jump in on this before but my time is very limited, especially at now. Regarding your question “Is there any way to give feedback about the appeal process?”, I would suggest that you write this as a question/suggestion in a post on Connect’s How-tos board. that way others can add their view and express their interest.
Hehe, this is one of the classic issue, I would say that it is a case study, so thank you for posting it.
Especially when it comes to images it is quite funny to see how sometimes the filter is triggered by them.
While there is not the possibility to report the appeal, we have other tools in our hands to improve the AI and to have a better response from the filter.
I am just preparing a “case study” post, for us to submit examples with description about photos that wer filtered.
I know Google read our post (even if sometimes they don’t respond) , so feel free to join the conversation on there when the post will be ready.
