Ahimsa Sthal Jain Temple - A Tranquil Spot in the Heat of Delhi

Ahimsa Sthal means ‘place of peace’ or ‘place of non-violence’ and the Bhagawan Mahavir Ahinsa Kendra is a Digambar Jain temple dedicated to Lord Mahaveer Jain Tirthankar. Located opposite the Qutub Minar across the road, there is a massive and magnificent 13 feet statue of Lord Mahavir in Padmasan that is the Lotus Position adding glory to the temple.

It is next to a busy street but on entering the atmosphere is very soothing and the temple offers plenty of space to sit and chant or meditate. There is a shoe stand on the right side immediately on entering and a graceful arc of creepers to enter the cobbled pathway that leads to the stairs leading to the hillock.

The entire place is nice, clean, and quiet. There are several ramps that lead way up to the main shrine and all ramps are very well maintained.

The parking is outside along the road for both 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers but the place is spacious for inside with a hillock at the end. At the base of the hillock is a sprawling garden with plenty of walking space.

There are also several zigzag staircases to climb uphill and many beautiful views on the way.

Overall the Ahimsa Sthal is an uninterrupted, tranquil, and peaceful spot in Delhi, to visit for a short while either solo or with family. I went there late in the afternoon and enjoyed the sunset and beautiful views of the Qutub Minar.
