Picture of African Pear: Fruit, Cooked fruit, Leaves, Seed & Pulp
In Africa, pears come in different types, African Elemi, Avocado pear, African pear etc. existing in diverse colours, Purple, Navy, Green etc. taking different shapes oval, bell, round etc.
Today I present to you this ellipsoid drupe called African pear, grown mainly in Africa: especially Nigeria, Angola, Congo Sierra Leone and in some Asian nations like Malaysia. Known as Ube in Southeast Nigeria, relatively unknown in the Western and Northern parts of Nigeria. Called Atanga in Gabon, Plum in Cameroun, Safou in Congo. Dacryodes edulis is the botanical name. Other names given to this fruit includes Butter fruit, Bush butter, oil fruit etc. The fruit is mainly harvested during rainy seasons the same time fresh corns are harvested from farms. One irony surrounding African pear is that whereas most fruits turn lighter in colour to indicate ripeness or maturity for example, orange, pawpaw etc. African pear changes from white or pink to navy, purple or lavender to indicate readiness for consumption.

Bread and butter are refined and processed Corn and butter. Oftentimes it is washed and soaked in warm water and the pulp licked like an iced cream it is equally eaten with roasted plantain. But whichever option you choose, this fruit is a delight anytime any day and has been proven to be a reservoir of minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium in addition to the presence of vitamins A and C and other nutrients. Also, apart from the butter extract bush pear is used to heal wounds and used as moisturizer in certain quarters.
