Dear fellow Local Guides! My name is Daniel and I’m writing this short story from Romania.
As mentioned in the title, the Local Guides program means for me advices from one guide to another, helping each other by reviewing different places with own experiences. This way we let others exploring new, interesting places.
My first interaction with this program was 3 years ago, when I gave a one star rating to a local company, being unsatisfied with their services. This was the moment when I started reading the reviews of different companies before using their services, and I understood how important is to give a review about my own experience. Two years ago I also uploaded my first photo on Maps, it was a yellow scooter what I rent in Lanzarote. Seeing that it gathers more and more views, I realized how a simple photo can help people on choosing, perhaps, the rental company they would like to visit. I felt kind of being satisfied, so I started uploading more and more photos. It was interesting to see then how a simple meal in Hungary could gather more than 11 thousand views, which in my eyes is a benefit for other people.
When I visit a new city, the opening hours of groceries, caffes or restaurants are very important for me. That’s why I pay attention to this, and when I see there’s something worng or missing, I edit it immediately. I believe that I help other people with this.
On the other hand, when I see a nice place or landscape, I like to share it with others, so people might explore places which were not planned to visit.
In a nutshell, the program gives you a lot, and lets you giving to others.
Thanks for letting me share this with you, I’m looking forward to meet you guys on my next travels.
Stay safe in this challenging period of corona virus crisis.
