#AdoptingYercaud 01- to get maximum small businesses added in Google Maps - TravellerG
Hello all,
I am excited to inform you about my dream mission…
Mission:
"ADOPTING a Place”- What is it?
In General:
‘Adopting’ an area/place is to become ‘responsible’ to ensure that every building/POI of that area is added to Google Maps. Each Google Local Guide can Adopt their Local Area = their Street/Locality/Village/Town (may share with other LGs), City (through community), because Local LGs will know the area very well - whether it is Address, Phone Number, Owners’ Name, etc.
Hello dear @KlaudiyaG , can you consider to make this a Global #Challenge, after properly formatting this concept?
In Specific:
"ADOPTINGYercaud”(A beautiful Hill Station in Tamil Nadu, India)
“ADOPTING‘Yercaud’ to get maximum (all) businesses added on Google Maps, with emphasis on small (& medium) businesses”.
Try to remove Spam from each site and educate site owners, how to do it.
Create “awareness about Google Maps (& It’s benefits) among the Small Business Community Owners & their Staff”.
Create awareness about GMB and assist them to complete the registration & take the benefits; And assist them, for clearing their doubts & solve their problems, if any.
Creating multiple Google Maps’ Lists for different categories of visitors/tourists.
Updating all POIs with ‘Accessibility’ status & promote business owners to make their shops, ‘Accessibility friendly’.
Planing:
This dream started in July and planning started in August 2020;
Due to Covid, I could not initiate the work at the site, earlier.
Now, I hope to complete the mission in around 6 to 9 months period.
Efforts at sites were started on 9th September, as a single man army for now, for this trial. (Details in the next post), & later will involve all Local Guides (at least the regional LGs).
What has been achieved so far:
Till now, almost 100 New Businesses Sites have been added to Google Maps, in which 95% belongs to Small Businesses.
Many reviews of different shops were updated for the current Corona status.
Few photos were uploaded from the site itself - rest are getting uploading.
Many 360 Street View Photos are recently added & many more will be added shortly.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful initiative @TravellerG and also taking the lead and showing the way.
I had little success in this when I started doing this last year in my neighborhood, except that I marked a 2-kilometer radius as the target region, to begin with.
The reasons being people were skeptical, needed education on the benefits of being added to Google Maps, and did not see the immediate benefits hence reluctant to talk or allow taking photos of small business.
I will closely watch this space and the response of other guides to learn more techniques for adding small businesses in the locality to Google Maps.
I am of the firm belief that moving around alone is of little help and this activity needs to be done in a group and businesses should be approached systematically to gain some credibility for initiating conversation.
@TravellerG Great effort here. All of us should do a part in helping local businesses in this difficult time. Personally for me, I think the most important is to ensure information of location in Google Maps is updated reflect the current latest information, which means, either somehow to teach the people in that specific location on how to maintain it, because businesses are fluid and change occasionally, for example products and services, or opening hours, etc. So as you correctly pointed out, need to get the people involved as much as possible, because 1 person wont be able to do it all, even for a small area. So, great job here, and hope many others will join and support.
First of all many thanks for this great initiative.
I usually concentrate on small unlisted businesses and add them to maps.
And I also have told and explained to many businesses about GMB and it’s benefits.
Now taking your lead I will add more small businesses extensively by the way you have raised in this post that is adopting an area and doing everything possible for the small businesses.
its a great intiative as google is already showing adv in TV too regarding small business owner initiative and even our indian primeminister also ask to promote Be VOCAL FOR LOCAL we as a local guide can promote this ,i personally so far promoted more than 25 small business and still promoting it
we can join advising accesiblity option also to promote business i had tried and found it adaptable too
yes of course 360 will be adding feather to it
keep up the good work my best wishes for your noble mission
“…to ensure information of location in Google Maps is updated & reflects the current latest information, …” Yes, this is very important point - trying by educating the SBO (Small Business Owners) - let us see.
I shall explain my humble plans in detail, shortly.
“…hope many others will join and support…” - That is what I too am expecting…
It’s a great initiative @TravellerG sir and I must appreciate your thoughts and efforts into that. I am currently working on similar pattern within approx. a kilometre radius and adding the businesses, marking shifted businesses, providing info of shutdown businesses and in addition to that providing info about the roads as well into Google Maps. This is a continuous process for me and I work on it as time permits as well as considering some strict measures of pandemic.
