Adding Small Town Businesses as a Local Guide

My favorite thing to share on Google Maps is NEW BUSINESSES.

I find when travelling around, especially in small towns, when I see a “Local Businesses signpost” outside a small town, or in the Main Business Street, I check a few places to see if they are in Maps. So often, I find that there are businesses there that have never made it onto maps.

I spend some time adding the businesses to the maps, and, often I receive an email on-the-spot informing that the new business has been added. Actually it is one of the most rewarding things to add to maps. Photos are also good, but adding a small business to the Map is the best.
Many small country businesses just don’t have tech savvy as part of their skill-set. They may be a great baker, or excavator operator, but putting themselves on Google Maps is completely unknown to them. As a Google Guide we have some responsibility to ensure these type of businesses appear on the maps so they can be found. Otherwise it is just the bigger businesses that are on Google Maps and that is unfair to the businesses and to people who wish to support ‘Local’.

My call to other Local Guides is to get out there and find the businesses that have just opened or have never been added to the map.
