Adding pavement (sidewalk) on google maps

I am trying to add a pavement that I frequently walk on but Google Fit and Google Maps refuses to acknowledge exists, even though the satellite photos show there is a path. However, there is no option to do that - I think there used to be as a I added a path before, but I can’t remember how I did it and more to the point there appears to be no option to do it now and I can’t try adding a road and “rebranding it” a pavement + cycle lane. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi @HK915

You can add it using the same tool used too add missing roads (on both desktop or mobile).

Then in the road settings you can choose “biking trail / pedestrian path” (or something similar, I don’t have the English version) as the road type.

@L-C and @HK915

I can confirm that what @L-C suggested is correct and it is still possible.

Editing roads is very different from editing info under the pins.

Please see How to add or fix a road.

Don’t forget to first select your platform tab at the top: Computer, Android, or IOS.

I hope this helps. If not please share the Maps links to where the path starts and ends.

Cheers

Morten

As others have said it’s still possible - your road type is “Biking / walking trail” to ensure it’s not included in routing for normal vehicles, if the path is clear on the satellite images they generally approve them fairly quickly.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the support and your answers. I did figure it out eventually, but initially google maps wouldn’t let me click on the path to add it for some reason. As I said, it worked in the end, about 20 minutes after posting, but I think that making this more known to the wider community (particularly those new to mapping) in How To’s has still been a useful outcome.

Thanks again!
