Adding cycle routes is totally inefficient and over complicated.
I have been watching the various threads on this topic for a while and unfortunately there is simply no adequate way of updating the maps to reflect the abundance of great cycle routes available. I know that the standard answer is to submit a report via the feedback feature, but this is more akin to trying to add the routes via a game of ‘Chinese Whispers’ as the person applying (or denying) the edits often misunderstands and/or lacks the local knowledge to understand the context of what is required.
I have recently submitted a whole raft of updates across my city to find that they have been drawn beyond the sections I identified in areas with no provision, and/or have been shown as “bicycle friendly roads” rather than “trails” as requested.
Is there no better way to update cycle routes on Google Maps? I am a Transport Planner for Local Government and part of my job is to build new infrastructure for cycling, so would love to see an accurate map to enable our local population to understand what is available and get out there to use it. These changes have the potential to radically change the way we use and access our communities and I would therefore love to see this issue addressed!
Any help or views would be greatly welcomed! Thanks.
