#ADD SIDDHA CLINIC as Business category in Google map

Request to Add “Siddha Clinic” as an Official Google Business Profile Category

I respectfully request Google to consider adding “Siddha Clinic” as a dedicated and standardized Google Business Profile category.

Siddha is not simply a wellness practice or an alternative health service. It is a formally recognized system of Indian medicine in India and is included within the national regulatory framework for the Indian System of Medicine.

The Government of India, through the Ministry of AYUSH, recognizes Siddha as one of the established systems of AYUSH. Siddha education, professional practice and medical institutions are regulated under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), established under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020.

NCISM specifically includes Siddha within its statutory regulatory framework, including education, professional standards, institutional assessment and registration. The Government of India has also established the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) as the dedicated national research body for Siddha and the National Institute of Siddha (NIS) in Chennai.

In Tamil Nadu, Siddha practice is further supported by a statutory professional registration framework through the Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Council, established under the Tamil Nadu Siddha System of Medicine (Development and Registration of Practitioners) Act, 1997. Registration with the Council is mandatory for practising Siddha in Tamil Nadu.

Government regulations also specifically provide standards for Siddha medical colleges and attached teaching hospitals, demonstrating that Siddha has a distinct and formally regulated medical education and healthcare structure.

Despite this established recognition and regulatory framework, Google Business Profile does not provide a sufficiently specific “Siddha Clinic” category in many locations. Siddha clinics are therefore often forced to use broader categories such as “Medical Clinic” or categories belonging to other systems of medicine.

This creates an inaccurate classification and reduces the ability of patients specifically searching for Siddha healthcare to identify the appropriate provider.

Users actively search for terms such as:

• Siddha Clinic

• Siddha Doctor

• Siddha Medicine

• Siddha Treatment

• சித்த மருத்துவமனை

• சித்த மருத்துவர்

• சித்த மருத்துவம்

• சித்தா கிளினிக்

I therefore request Google to introduce:

PROPOSED CATEGORY:

“Siddha Clinic”

Suggested definition:

“A healthcare clinic providing consultation and healthcare services based on the Siddha system of medicine by appropriately qualified and registered Siddha medical practitioners.”

A dedicated “Siddha Clinic” category would allow Google Maps and Google Search to accurately distinguish Siddha healthcare providers from Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and general medical clinics.

This would improve classification accuracy, search relevance, patient discoverability and representation of a formally recognized Indian system of medicine.

This request is not intended to seek preferential ranking for any individual clinic. It is a request for accurate categorization of Siddha healthcare providers as a distinct and officially recognized system of Indian medicine.

Thank you for considering this request.

Thanks for your very detailed suggestion.

It very rarely happens that Google Maps adds new categories. My colleague @JanVanHaver keeps track of all changes to the categories. Follow along here:

Just to say that it is very har to get new categories adopted.

As @MortenCopenhagen already mentioned, getting new categories added is unlikely - especially if you take into account that the rate of adding new categories seems to have dropped, compared to what it used to be. Since early June, so 4months already, no categories have been added (a few have even been removed - I will post details soon).

And on top of that I would not like to see categories for so-called alternative medicine (a term coined by Edzard Ernst, who abbreviates it as SCAM), but that is not a discussion that should be conducted here.
