add missing road in Shkoder, Albania (road edit is not available in this region)

Hi all,

  1. I need to add a missing road in the city of Shkoder, Albania (Europe). Road edit in this area isn’t available to the community.

  2. Is there any method of adding the road (video verification, photo 360°, video 360°, gpx track verification, etc)? I own a 360° camera (insta360) and a gps device garmin montana 650.

I searched the web and the forum. Only the standard method from Android/iOS/Web.

Any support please!

the standard method (your link) doesn’t apply to my region as I mentioned above.

thank you for your help.
But you have to understand that editing maps in my region isn’t available, neither in web nor android/ios.

Two thoughts:

1: Such data issues are better dealt with in the Maps support forum.

Hit the Community tap at the top and make a post. You need to attach or link to official documentation supporting the change you are proposing.

2: Maybe Google has been asked by the local authorities not to allow users generated changed to their official map. Hence it could be worth a try to ask the local authorities to update their map which in turn will then show up in Google Maps also next time there is an update.

Sorry about that. I made some test, and I can confirm that there is a limitation on editing roads

This is a very common situation in border areas. I see that the ability to add roads is only available in limited areas in the southern part of the country, so most likely these are restrictions requested by the public administration of your country, and in this case they cannot be overcome

Unfortunately Google doesn’t allow adding roads in all the countries. We never have any information about why, at least Google could provide a reason (ex: not allowed per government request) but Google never gives any data.

It can be possible to add roads in some limited areas usually because the neighboring country has edits allowed: in the case of Albania you can do it near Greece since we can edit roads there.

Albania’s map is really in a poor state: some major roads are still marked inside dam reservoirs:

This is really dangerous as it can lead to people driving in the water, especially during night times. I find this unacceptable. I tried to report it multiple times in the past years but Google stays deaf to all requests.

At this point your best hope would be teaming with some local authority as suggested. There is a program that allows uploading geo data: https://support.google.com/mapcontentpartners/answer/9359574

This would be the only way to accomplish something in your country as Google seems to not care at all about Albania. Probably the market is not worth the effort for them.
