Add location back

How do you add a location back to a photo that someone has deleted the location for? Google Maps now says “View place” and associates this with a random GPS location

Hi @HFM do you mean it shows “Unknown Place” against the photo when you look at your contributions? This can happen when you add photos to a place you’ve added and it is not approved or you’ve added photos to a place that is removed from Maps - perhaps it was a duplicate or deemed not real. For these you can delete the photo and upload it to the valid place.

Take a read of https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Shapes-and-Places-Guidance-on-where-to-add-edits-and-photos/td-p/2718301 to help you understand what sorts of places you should try to add photos to as a Local Guide.

Hello @HFM ,

Thank you for reaching out!

I am going to move your post to the How-tos section, the place where Local Guides ask questions related to Connect and Google Maps.

Hi @HFM

Looking at your contribution, I would like to try to explain what a Scenic Spot is, in Google Maps, because I have the feeling that the photos now related to an Unknown Place were originally associated to a Scenic Spot.

A Scenic Spot is not simply a point where there is a beautiful view. The location must be equipped “as a scenic spot”, for example with benches, or a gazebo, a terrace, otherwise it cannot be added to Maps, simply because "the view from here is amazing.

A few example of "scenic spots were I have recently contributed

All the places, as you can see, are designed for the people to seat in there and enjoy the panorama.

I can’t say the same for this place, as an example, so I suspect the place will be removed from Maps too.

The photos should be added to a real Listing. In any case a photo cannot be moved from a listing to another, so the only option to have them in the correct place is to delete the ones related to an Unknown locations, and upload them correctly, if a listing do exist
