Achievement Notification Emails - At what points are they sent out?

Edit: I meant to post this in “Help Desk” rather than “Achievements” - can it be moved or should I post again? Is it OK in here as a question rather than a celebration of an achievement?

In the past I’ve received emails with a notification about a particular milestone achievement being reached, e.g. the “You’re a top photographer on Google Maps” with a specific number.

You see people sharing them all the time in the “Achievements” section of this very resource like this example from @DheerajV (hope you don’t mind me sharing this as an sample).

Are these triggered at specific points and do they stop being sent once you pass a particular point / view count?

I haven’t received one for a while now but I was just curious to know if there were particular trigger points for them and if so is it documented anywhere?

Hello @turbotapeworm

I have the same issue like you turbotapeworm. I since 3 month only receive my monthly timeline.

I think it is not related to the settings @VasT , but maybe related to the current situation?

Hi @VasT - thanks for sorting out my error, I was on too many tabs at the same time and clicked the wrong one to create my post, by the time I realised and looked at the editing options I couldn’t see any way to move it to the right place or remove it myself and start again but I’ll be sure to read the guidelines again and be more careful :slightly_smiling_face:

I have my settings configured to receive notifications (in all categories) and generally receive a few each day but they are more around edits or contributions made rather than the milestone achievements I was wondering about.

I have received achievements content in the past and realise that they aren’t going to constantly come through unless I’m being awesome (which I’m not) but I don’t recall seeing anything since February (a notification of a review that had been viewed a lot) and my last “You’re a top photographer…” was in January. Since that one I’ve had a lot more image views but no further messages.

Now obviously this isn’t the end of the world but as I said in my original message I was curious if there were particular triggers for the messages and if so is this something we can view anywhere?

e.g. image views at 1000, 5000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, 1,000,000, 10,000,000 and so on?

Pure curiosity about the underlying system and when it sends out the notes more than anything plus some concern that perhaps it hasn’t been working properly due to the underlying things going on during changes made for COVID-19 staffing levels etc

Hello @turbotapeworm

Because of constraint on the resource as informed in this pos thttps://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Announcements/UPDATED-Temporary-product-changes-in-Google-Maps/ba-p/2327368

Amount of such messages had reduced considerably.

However, I notice, the messages have restarted once again. You may receive an announcement even on reaching a view count of 40 for a new photo upload!

These messages are meant for encouragement and the triggers can vary from time to time. However, you must allow for those in your settings.

@TorM - that was pretty much my thinking as you can see by the reply I was writing without having seen yours, it’s almost as if the underlying mechanism isn’t working 100% so I was curious about how it should be working and what trigger points it works to.

It might all be fine and I just haven’t met the criteria for any achievements as yet but it would be nice to know either way.

Hi @C_T - you’re right, some “your photo is getting noticed” type ones have started to come through again recently and I fully appreciate the limitations that the COVID situation has brought, I just figured this kind of thing would be automated rather than needing anyone to physically be there to process such things so presumed the system might still be able to generate the emails.

Like I said above it’s more of a curiosity thing than a complaint as it’s just a “nice to have” thing but when I eventually get to that 100,000,000 images views mark I want to see some balloons in my inbox
