Accessible Life in Google Earth - Elizabeth Park #Trenton #Michigan

This is a project I have been working on for Accessible Life in Google Earth, created by @ErmesT . Since Ermes launched this project, I have been so passionate about google earth. Not sure if I did it correctly but I will give it a shot. Please review my post and advise me if I am wrong or anything else I need to improve, Ermes. Thanks in advance!

The concept of talking about a place and showing them on Google Earth so the reader can see the location of the park live virtually is so brilliant. Many parks and recreation areas are mostly wheelchair accessible in the State of Michigan. Why can’t I add them onto Google Earth?

Elizabeth Park in Trenton, Michigan is a beautiful park. Summer (of course) is the busiest season. A gorgeous spot to take pre-wedding photos, graduation photos, or just a selfie, and take advantage of Elizabeth Park Marina for a refreshing boat ride on the Detroit River. A walk along the river all wheelchair accessible and has a fishing pier. Check my review of the park.Speaking about fishing, this place is A place you need to go

Besides having the park live virtually it will also give an idea of where the accessible parking, accessible toilet, bench to rest, how long it will take to walk around the park (size-wise), fountain drink, bench to rest, etc.

Let’s see what Elizabeth Park has to offer:

Type of place: County-owned Public Park

Area size: Large (162 acres)

Time required for the visit: 30 minutes walk around

Public Transport: No

Equipped for wheelchairs: Yes

Car parking: Yes

Space for the disabled: Yes

How far from the entrance: 300 meter

Facilities for a break: Yes

Public toilets: Yes

Food and drink for sale: Not now (due Covid)

Accessible: Yes

That information will give someone an idea of what to expect, what to bring, what to do around the area.

All this info can be seen at Accessible Life in Google Earth - Elizabeth Park. Please do not forget to watch the video as well.

In commemorating Connect’s 5th Birthday, I would like to take this opportunity to participate in #BirthdayChallenge and #ConnectChallenge run by @Denise_Barlock and @jayasimha78

Any improvement and advice are welcome. Thanks!

That’s great @Erna_LaBeau , the place seems to be really beautiful, and easy for relaxing with the view of the river.

I am ready to add the park in Accessible Life in Google Earth , and I will send soon the link of the submission form.

Here below just a few tips for you for improving your already great My-Maps, and to adhere to the Contribution Guide

  • Give a name to your layer - It will make it easy to understand what is the layer about
  • Create additional separate layers for Information and for Services. This will make easier to check the Map. You can use this place as an example
  • Tell in the My-Maps why we should visit that place. You told us the reasons in this post, but a user that find the place in Google Earth will not read your post (not yet), so she/he will need to find the same info in your My-Map.
  • Add a shape of the area we are talking about. Even if in Accessible Life we already estimate the time needed for the visit, we also know that every person has different needs. Understanding the size / shape of the area will help people to evaluate by themselves what is accessible for them.
  • Add the position of the “facilities for a break” and “public toilets”. If the toilets are not in Maps you can also add them in there. A photo of the available services would be great
  • Even if the “food places” are not opened yet, they will probably open in the future, so adding them, with the view of the listing in Google Maps will help the visitors to find the information

Accessible Parking and Scenic Spot are categories that is possible to add in Google Maps. We can open a separate conversation about scenic spots, but in any case I see that in the park there are areas designed as scenic spots, where you can seat and enjoy the view.

Please let me know if you want a private chat to talk about this amazing place together (you know already that I am available ; ) and we will find a way to manage it.

Your first attempt is Great!!!, Erna, well well done. I cant wait to add it in the Accessible Life project, and I am sure this will stimulate other Local Guides and Nature lovers from USA to share their knowledge with us. So let me tag a few of them: @KarenVChin , @Kwiksatik , @jayasimha78 .

United States is a country where Accessibility is taken into consideration, so I can’t wait to have more and more Outdoor Accessible Life places added.

If you guys wants a meet-up to talk together about the Project, just let me know.

Hugs

What I said to @Erna_LaBeau is valid of course for every other country, and especially India, @NareshDarji .

If you guys wants a meet-up to talk together about the Project, and maybe to create an Accessible Life Indian Team, just let me know. Working as a team can be more fun than working alone and we can review progress together, as I am doing here now for this amazing park in Michigan
