Accessible Life in Google Earth - Atlas Park #Taylor #Michigan

[Accessible Life is a project created to help all people explore nature and public places no matter their mobility with the ability to share these accessible places on Google Earth. The project is very dynamic and evolves day by day with the contributions of Local Guides from all over the world. While Google Earth is the search engine for exploring accessible places around the world, the real focus of the project is Google My Maps. It is using My Maps that everyone can contribute, creating and sharing accessible outdoor areas to add to Accessible Life- by @ErmesT ]

In this opportunity, I would like to highlight a small park in my neighborhood, Atlas Park. This park is given by Atlas Oil Company which their office is just across the street from the Park. It is dedicated for the children in the neighborhood to play.

Accessible Life in Google Earth :wheelchair: - Atlas Park, Taylor, Michigan

Description of the park:

Type of place: Children’s playground

Area size: Small

Time required for the visit: 10 minutes

Public Transport: No

Equipped for wheelchairs: yes

Car parking: Yes

Space for the disabled: Yes

How far from the entrance: 1 meter

Facilities for a break: Yes

Public toilets: No

Food and drink for sale: No

Accessible: Yes

This park provides a children’s playground, parking, picnic benches, walk track. Almost every day it does not matter what the season is. The children in the neighborhood come here and play. It is far from a big road so it is safe from traffic. It has a big parking lot that is enough to accommodate 7 - 8 cars. Entrances are on both sides and it is wheelchair friendly :wheelchair: . The duration to walk around the park will approximately take about 5 minutes. The park itself is located right in the middle. There are benches to stop along the walking trail. The path is made from cement and it is wide enough. The downfall of this park is no amenities. No public restrooms and no trash cans.

A block away from the park (heading towards Telegraph Road on Ecorse Road) there is WOW Marathon Gas Station this place is open 24 hours it has a convenience store that is wheelchair accessible :wheelchair: for the entrance and the restrooms. Next to it,Vinny Macks Snack Shack is a sandwich shop that opens from 11 am to 9 pm Monday to Saturday. As of now due to covid, curbside pickup and delivery only no dining in, in another word the restroom is not available for public used.

My review about Atlas Park can be read [here] and a short video can be watched [here] as well. The facility detail can view on the city of Taylor website City of Taylor facility detail of Atlas Park

Shout out to other Local Guides to participate in this @ErmesT project, let’s fill up Google Earth with accessibility places from all over the world!

Love this park, @Erna_LaBeau , and I am preparing everything to add it on Accessible Life in Google Earth.

I only have a few tips for you:

  • Parking Lot: Do you have some photo? Have you added the Parking place in Google Maps? Is the parking free?
  • You said “no amenities”. What about to highlight that you can find food (and a toilet?) at 500 feet: Vinny Macks Snack Shack ? This may help a lot
  • I can see a playground in the middle of the park. Is the playground already in Google maps? Knowing about it will help families with children
  • I like so much your video. What about to separate it from the POI of the park, with a title like “video tour of the park”?

Great Job, as usual

Thank you so much @ErmesT for the very useful tips that I need to add another possibility that visitors can access the surrounding areas. It gives the person who wants to visit the park to have choices for a quick meal or to buy drinks.

And here we are @Erna_LaBeau

Sorry for being late. We have seven new places added in Accessible Life in Google Earth today, from United States (Michigan and California), India, South America. Thanks to @jayasimha78 , @NareshDarji , @Jesi and @SebaasC (Seba, Jesi, I am waiting for your post to add the link :slightly_smiling_face: )

So, back to Atlas Park, a perfect demonstration that even a small park can find a place in Accessible Life, because it gives the opportunity to the people with limited mobility to find an enjoyable outdoor area close to them

I am happy to inform you that the park is now available in Accessible Life in Google Earth - Atlas Park
