Accessible Durban[WAW-2019] Meetup Recap

Hello, on the 14th of December 2019 which was last year I hosted a an accessibility meetup joining forces with other local guides world wide such as @EmekaUlor and @ChinonsoOnukwugha reached out to me encouraging to participate, here was the actual post for the meetup Accessible Durban[WAW-2019]. I successfully hosted it, and no one attended except my self. The purpose of the meetup was to encourage the local people, business owners and the government to consider the elderly and the disabled people who have special needs when it comes to accessing buildings, roads and even public transport in our community. Public infrastructure such as roads, shops and the beach is accessible for people with special needs, see these photos on the shared photo album I have compiled Accessible Durban photo album.

Here is a video I have compiled during the meetup:

I planned to meetup our local radio stations to have an interview with them with an aim to reach more people but that was not possible, I decided to continue without it, and thanks to the lord who made it possible. It was a rainy week, the day for the meetup was a cloudy and windy day, some of my photos may not be that good.

I wanted to give feedback with the recap post but because of the festive season holidays I had to put it on hold. With the meetup I had to visit the major places of the city which are mostly used by the public. Bellow is the list of visited places, the photos I taken they have not been uploaded to these places yet:

  1. Durban Station
  2. Post Office Durban
  3. Durban ICC
  4. Public Toilets
  5. South African Revenue Service
  6. uShaka Marine World
  7. Centre Court
  8. moyo uShaka Pier Bar

With the information collected here I can proudly say that this city is accessible and most of the place I visited they do cater for people with special needs, for those places who do not have these features are small shops not big once.

The following photo was taken at Ushaka Marine World, these place is also accessible and a good place for all, the old and the disabled.

I enjoyed everything, even though it was a windy and cloudy day, that did not stop me. I am happy that I am confident to host another accessibility meetup in future. I will still continue trying to reach to my local radio stations so that I can touch more lives and help my people. Thank you.
