Travel Guide Special Disability Edition
As part of our advocacy, #OneAccessibility, we will share information about differently able and profile one location with accessible trails. Look out every week for this enlightening post.
I feel very lucky and blessed to live in a city that is accessible to everyone; and I have a long list of sites and places I recommend to family and friends when they visit. Most places in Sydney are all accessible in one way or another. Almost every where you go, you will find wheelchair friendly entrances and exits, accessible toilets and even Braille signs.
The famous Sydney Opera House even offers Accessible Shows. They want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the magic of live shows and special programs at the Sydney Opera House. Here you’ll find their program of inclusive performances for people of all ages and abilities.
They offer:
Auslan Performance (sign language)
Relaxed Performance
Audio Described Performance
Sing & Play Performance
At the moment, they are selling tickets to a show in August called Whoosh!
Whoosh! Is an immersive and multi-sensory performance that puts young explorers with disabilities at the centre of the action, as they become co-pilots of an interstellar adventure.
That sounds so amazing, even I want to join in.
When you finish from the iconic Sydney Opera House you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney.
Or you can book a Behind the Scenes Sensory Tour
Touch, taste, smell and truly experience the best attractions at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney
You will explore with an experienced guide some of the most interesting parts of the Garden and gain exclusive access to the historic glasshouses and their tropical plant treasures. During the tour you will have the opportunity to see, touch, smell and even taste some of our unique plant collection.
These two iconic sites are both fully accessible and a true example of some of the things you can do when planning a trip to Sydney.
Here are some photos I took on a recent trip to both sites.
