Accessibility Uncovered ♿: Accessible Beaches

I had to go and share on line such a great project to notice you all we are a small country with huge willing to make EVERYONE feel like home. ¡You must come to visit!

The initiative to facilitate access to the beach for people with disabilities was promoted by the architecture student Cristian Arguedas. “We believe we stand out as pioneers at Central American enhancing human rights, because we all deserve the opportunity to have contact with the sea. It is a historical debt we have with this population, so this project comes to alleviate that access gap to recreation,” she said.

The mobile ramp of 63 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width was made based on material reused plastic caps, after an industrial process in which the caps are transformed into “plastic wood” and give a firm base for that people can move in a wheelchair.

This first catwalk emerged from the collection of 420,000 plastic caps number five (equivalent to 840 kilos), together with 521 kilos of plastic bags number four, which adds a total of 1361 kilos of recycled plastic, which were collected in 7 months long.

It’s really gratifying to see people with their wheelchairs moving to the beach or seeing someone walking on crutches to the sea without worrying about falling or having their crutch fall into the sand.

Yes, I am a dreamer, it is free and keeps me full of new ideas to reach. I have had the chance to travel around and every time I came back, I just realize I want to do it again as soon as possible. Traveling make me feel more alive and grateful, is the way the world tells us we are equally different, and we are all fine as we respect each other like a living dreamer as we are.

Hopefully I will find on local guides the world´s best GYOZAS the day I stop by Japan, and the nicest places to stay and watch the Norway´s Borealis Lights, or even someone would tell me what to wear for sailing at Milford Sound, who knows?

It is for sure Google Maps is not just the app that take us from one point to another and give us an estimate time or the shortest way, actually IT IS the story and comments behind each one of our posts about where we are interested in, and we have the chance to make the difference preventing or suggesting memories for live!!!
