Accessibility Matters
A place isn’t truly 5-star if some people can’t even get through the front door.
As Local Guides, should accessibility information be a priority in every review? Why or why not?
Hi @DJALAL_B16,
Thank you for sharing. Please note that I removed the “Feature request” tag from your topic as it was not relevant. Make sure to add tags that best describe what you are sharing. For more information, please read this topic: What are Connect tags and how to use them?
For sure accessibility matters “for me” @DJALAL_B16
What about you?
Are accessibility information a priority in your reviews, like they are in mine?
Do you mind to share an example (a link to one of your reviews where you want to highlight the accessibility?)
At Connect we like to ask questions, but usually the first response is “you start”, because sharing an example of what we do is much better than simply asking others to do it.
In any case, this is my last review: Google Maps
Oh, let me add that In Connect and in Google Maps respecting author’s right is not an option, it’s a MUST.
Do you have the permission from Radio-Canada / France Larocque to use the photo you posted here?
" Aller au resto en fauteuil roulant, un parcours du combattant"
If not, kindly remove and replace it with a photo taken by you.
Thank you
Thank you for your feedback. I removed the image to avoid any copyright concerns. My intention was simply to start a discussion about the importance of accessibility information for people with disabilities.
With a simple search in Connect you will find a lot of conversation / proposal about accessibility, @DJALAL_B16 .
But it doesn’t mean we can violate Author’s right, so thank you for removing the copyrighted image.
Accessibility is a huge planet. Accessibility is first of all Information, but of course also reviews. Accessibility means putting your name and your face in your content, in your contributions. It’s not a “neutral” position.
For this reason I invited you to share Your opinion first. However, I haven’t receive any answer from you, and as you are just mentioning reviews, I am asking again.
@DJALAL_B16 Accessibility is one of the most important pillars of Google Maps. Billions of information have been added to maps to enable Persons with Disabilities (PwD) make decisions using Google Maps features.
If you search for accessibility #Disability or #OneAccessibility you will be amazed the work Local Guides have done to make Google maps a useful tool for everyone including people with disabilities.
Accessibility matters at all levels. I had been my husband’s only full-time caregiver until he passed in the early 2000s. So, I started my search and often fought for accessibility early on with Google Guide. Now, I advocate for myself, and when reviewing, that is usually the first thing I look for and ask about.
This brings up my recent question: how do I update a review written three years ago? I have recently visited a location twice that has made good progress on mobility accessibility and has plans underway for further updates.
I’d appreciate any usable information. Thank you.
