When reviewing the travel-related articles out here on LG Connect I also realized that I haven’t included accessibility information for those places which is very critical for the differently-abled people. I used a template as shown below and marked each criterion where the place passed or failed:
Some additional criteria can also be included when required.
For example, when writing about a public park the factors could be:
Wheelchair-accessible Children Playing Equipment.
Wheelchair-accessible Jogging Track.
Wheelchair-accessible Open Gym Equipment.
In the past, I have included information about reaching the place, local travel tips, nearby attractions, the best time to visit, where to stay, and so on, I am sure adding accessibility information about the place now makes it the perfect article for a traveler.

It was an uphill task and needed some real-hard stamina.
I worked over the entire last week and updated about 55 of my existing articles on LG Connect with this information.
A Tip about the Icons
1. How to insert the Accessibility icon using a desktop computer?
You can use any existing applications like Facebook or WhatsApp Web and insert the emoji icon for Wheelchair there.
Then Cut-Paste the emoji into Google Maps review.
It appears black-and-white and grainy like this but when viewed on an android device, it displays the icon properly
2. How to insert the Accessibility icon using a mobile device Android/iOS?
Insert the emoji for the wheelchair in the category just before the flags group.
3. To include the emoji type :check and to include the
emoji type :cross
My Verdict
1. I think this is a good practice to include accessibility-related information in every article under the travel topic.
2. Initially, it feels cumbersome but if you persist, it starts getting easier and all of your reviews now look great and even more helpful with the accessibility information added.
Try it out. and share your experience.
Meanwhile, I am conducting a Public Parks Accessibility Update Meetup in Delhi on Saturday, 26-July-2020.
See you there…
Till then… Happy Guiding
