Being a Street View photographer you can access by yourself and check some of the information released on the official support page
Regarding your email, GoThru is officially listed as one of the software for publishing Street View images Here below the screenshot

You received the email because you are probably on their mail list, however I do not see anything “fake” in there. Can you please explain

I did read the mail content so, if you can be so kind to check the link I provided to you and to explain why what they said in the email is “fake”, this may help the whole community.
As far as I know, the new app bring on Mobile the functionality of gothru moderator

On my first reply, to respond to your last question, I have invited you to check some of the information released on the official support page
In there you will find the answer. No one says that Street view App will close, but simply that some function will change.
So, again, have you checked the link? This will clarify your doubts. I am used to check the sources of the information, before to report something as “fake”, @oqtion , hope you will do the same

Sadly this is true. I myself wrote a warning there about this terrible decision.
Google is killing the app by removing the useful features so we are forced to use third-party apps that have to pay Google for using the publish API. Of course those third-parties aren’t going to pay those fees themselves so we have to pay to provide free data to Google. Another massive letdown from Google.
The email you received seems totally legit, the GoThru app on the store looks legit as well.
