One of the reasons I chose to buy a Pixel was because I’m a keen local guide like the rest of us, and was excited to find out we could update to street view by taking a video whilst on a walk/run/cycle. My old Sony Xperia did not support this, and I found out from Paul’s helpful video at https://youtu.be/BkbUlVWc2N0 that this was possible, but he highlighted that in order to have this available to you, you:
A) have to be in the right country (he’s in Aus)
B) have to be a level 6 or above local guide, and
C) your phone must support AR Core 2.
In the video he showed it as working for him on his Pixel 3. If you were to visit the page for Street view on Google Play at the time of writing it says this:
Try the new ‘Video Mode’ where you can connect a Ricoh Theta V or Theta Z1 camera and create Street View as you walk, cycle or drive. This new mode records video from your camera and converts it into connected Street View images when you publish to Google Maps. Now you can add new streets and trails where Street View cars have never driven before!
I have the pixel 4a 5g (and am in the UK), and it’s not available to me.
If someone, possibly in the UK with a pixel phone or that can do this, could tell me please which of the following apply it would be much appreciated
-
the 4a 5g lacks the ability to support AR core 2 or later / updating street view via video and never will
-
the 4a 5g will, but Google hasn’t got around to making it available in the UK just yet
For the avoidance of doubt I have re-installed the app, check my phone has the latest updates, and turned it off and on
I asked Google for support about this and they had no idea, pointing me towards this community.
Thanks,
Mike Bravo
