A Wrong Turn Goes Right: Pittsburgh Street Art

Greetings my fellow Local Guides :wave:t4:

Today I’d like to share some wonderful “street art” that was stumbled upon, just this past weekend. I don’t know much at all about the artist, so I will let the art & photos do most of the sharing in this post. :camera_flash:

We were on our way back home from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and missed a turn. “Ugh!” was the immediate reaction, as that left us in stop-and-go traffic for an extra 10 min. However, as we made the turn to get back on our scheduled route - We noticed one of the coolest mosaics that either of us had ever seen!

Photo #1: This gorgeous mosaic is what initially caught our eye! It’s made from glass and ceramic tiles, in every color you can imagine

While admiring the mosaic and taking photos from different angles, something caught my eye just up the block…

Photo #2: This was the next piece of Street Art that caught my eye - a mural with deep colors, depicting a jazz band on an elongated motorcycle that’s cruising over the city at night.

From there, the discoveries never seemed to end!

Photo #3: A photo of me snapping a photo of @MelTG snapping a photo, of a great mural.

Photo #4: A sculpture of a really small guy in really big, colorful jeans.

Photo #5: A very realistic painted depiction of an old style soda vending machine.

Photo #6: An old red Ford pickup parked in front of a number of murals and sculptures.

Photo #7: A whimsical frog sculpture accented with mosaic, climbs down a brick wall.

Photo #8: Another frog sculpture accented with mosaic, takes a break on the sidewalk.

Photo #9: The eclectic entry to what I’d assume is where the artist does their creating?!

Photo #10: 2 dog statues and a a fire hydrant painted on the wall.

Photo #11: A masked accordion player greeting those who might enter the decorative door.

Photo #12: A figure of a woman in a little, black dress, holding an umbrella over her shoulder to shade the sun.

We had a great time exploring those two blocks and definitely made the most of our navigation mistake  Have you stumbled onto any interesting POIs after making a mistake with your planned course of travel? If so, I’d like to hear about your discoveries!I’ve done my best to share this one with all of you, I hope you enjoy the photos. :star_struck:

I like your perspective @Rednewt74 and have to say that I tend to share that way of looking at life. This was definitely a welcomed happenstance, as are many of those unexpected “discoveries” in our mapping adventures!

Always pleasure to share. I’m a firm believer that there’s no point in gaining knowledge, if you don’t plan to share it. I’m glad that you enjoyed the photos, Alfred. Hope you have a great weekend.

@TerryPG thanks for appreciating! We were so surprised to find all of that within two blocks, totally out of the blue. Those are the best, though.

Yeah, @MelTG stepped right in front of me… can you believe it? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Fantastic post @Mikeinthefalls . The photos look amazing with the murals on the wall, they look so colorful and vibrant and the place looks good because of these murals/street art.

What was going on in that neighborhood @Mikeinthefalls ? They must have something cool going on there if they could draw people off the road to walk around. Did you even find food while you were at it?

@JustJake

Man, it was so random. We had just left walking around Pitt’s campus and we’re heading towards downtown, missed our on ramp… it was a pretty nondescript, urban area. I think that the artist must reside in the brick building?

An excellent instance of happenstance, but we did not stumble upon any food in that area. That would truly make it an inviting tourist destination!

Wow these murals are so nice to see @Mikeinthefalls . :sparkling_heart:

You are an amazing photographer and it really shows how you pour your heart into making each photo as perfect and aesthetic as possible. The colors really pop out, and it’s so nice to hear you were able to have a colorful stroll along 2 blocks of street art.

Yes, I’ve definitely taken wrong turns before or missed a turn a few times when driving. One time I missed a turn and had to U Turn and I saw a plaza nearby in Globe, Arizona. I was thirsty anyways so I just turned into the plaza and stopped in the grocery store to grab water and take some photos/videos. :blue_heart:
