Everyone needs to eat. It is a basic for everyone. And as it might be happened to every advonturer, knowing where the best food is an important thing. And because of different culture has a unique taste of food, so information about food, list of menus and the price in local currency will be a significant factor to choose.
That is why I love to share about food in Google Maps.
You can see in mine that there are various kind of restaurant and food stall that I shared, from the luxury restaurant to the homecook in an alley. In my prediction, tourist who come to Yogya is not all comes from a wealthy economic status, so it is my passion to share various food, so that they can choose according to their preferences and level of price.
Beside that, as a Mini Indonesia, here are many students come from all over Indonesia. That is why I write my review in Bahasa Indonesia as our National Language. So, they can choose properly. And they can go to the nearest restaurant from their boarding house. As you can see, my reviews go from east to west, from north to south of Yogyakarta.
One of my most consideration is how to provide a good food in a reasonable price. And…one of my friend has taken a very brilliant step to implement it in daily life. The basic principle in her food stall is they can eat and feel full without making them feel poor.
There is a housewife, who wants to get an extra income. After collecting as much as Rp 1,000,000, she can rent an angkringan on a busy street with clothing shops, where the shops have a large number of freelance workers. This housewife, just call her Ermi, choose the form of angkringan as a place to sell, because it is not permanent, it can be moved wherever you want.
Angkringan is typical Javanese food stalls that spread all over Yogyakarta. Its signature that this angkringan sell modest delicacies. Just to mention several of them are rice and fried tempe with chili, we call it nasi kucing (cat rice), because it is so small, as if it is enough for a cat. That is why people calls it nasi kucing.
Beside that, there are marinated tofu, intestine satay, quail egg satay, kikil (beef leg) satay, and many more delicacies. It is cheap and tasty and makes you want more and more. Beside food, there are also beverages such as tea, ginger tea, milk with ginger, and of course coffee.
Ermi sell it in a affordable price for freelancer workers. For each packet of rice and fried tempe with chili is Rp 2,000. For various satay, the range is from Rp 1,000- Rp 3,000 each). So, if the freelancer worker eat in her angkringan, s/he only spent Rp 5,000 per meal. So, s/he still have enough money to pay for the boarding house and for the transportation expenditures.
Though she can get nett income Rp 270,000 from 5.00 – 10.00 pm everyday, in Indonesia’s society, she has to consider to give donation when her neighbor or relatives get sick, dead, marriage, even for go to pilgrimage. She said, “The important thing for me is just thankful for what I can get and live happily with my friends and neighbors.”
It is typically Yogyakarta, where money is not on the top priority, but the relationship among society element. So, for Ermi, selling food is a way for her to help her neighbor and to get a little extra income. And as a local guide, it is important for me to show this kind of food stall on the maps, because it is the need for people in common.
By telling you this, I hope there will be a facility on the maps to add places like this. By doing this I can help people get cheap meal, and also help food staller like Ermi to survive. @KarenVChin
