Have you ever thought of travelling back in time? Where would you like to go back in time? Or perhaps when would you like to go back? What would you like to see? What would you change?
Sometimes such questions come to people’s minds. Or maybe it was I who put them in your thoughts. I love travelling to new places but recently such a thought struck my mind. What if we could travel back in time? Think of all the places you’d like to visit back then. Perhaps you are thinking that time travel is not possible. But for now, let me indulge your imagination because in it anything is possible. Just imagine the world of opportunities if this was possible. I think Google would have to introduce a new app called Google Time (If this ever happens just know that I am the one who came up with the idea).
A year ago, I got a chance to visit Egypt for a student exchange program. Of all the places on earth, Egypt is well-known for its cultural and ancient history. From the Pyramids of Giza; the temples such as Luxor, Karnak, Kom-Ombo and the most famous of all, Abu Simbel; and the valley of the kings. Many of these ancient man-made structures are quite a sight and wonder to look at. With the colossal columns of the temples and huge stones that were used to build the pyramids, one can only imagine the technological know-how of such a civilization back in those days.
This was the place I really got into being a Google local guide. It was exciting uploading all those images and giving reviews of the places.
Going to the pyramids was one of the most exciting visits I made. I actually went there twice on different occasions. Being there made one feel like you are in one of those movies that were based on ancient Egypt. These are one of the places that you cannot miss visiting while in Misr (phonetic Arabic name for Egypt). The area, Giza, is really large and has three huge pyramids. I was very excited when I got a ticket for entering one. Inside, there were a series of tunnels leading up to the inner chamber where the tomb was. Reaching the tomb was no easy task since one had to cover numerous series of wooden stairs going upwards to reach the place (That was enough exercise for that day). My friends and I were disappointed not to see the sarcophagus and other treasures. It was just an empty tomb.
But regardless of the disappointment, the place had a sense of mystery to it. The kind that would give you a feeling of being lost time. One could almost feel like they are having a glimpse of the past. As I walked around the tomb it felt like I was having a walk through ancient time. If you ever felt an urge to travel back in time, a visit to Egypt will most definitely satisfy you. As you travel around the country to visit the ancient sites and hear stories about the places you’ll see the ancient past unfold before you.
