A visit to Artesella - The contemporary mountain - Part of the "Traveling Like a Local" Series

The Contemporary Mountain, is the self definition for this unusual place.

I have visited Artesella (https://goo.gl/maps/ssiz54KMK4T2) at the end of April, and I want to share my experience with you.

Looking at the listing in Google Maps, this place is defined as an “Arts museum”. The definition is correct, but you have not to expect a classic museum, because there is not a building to “contain” the artwork, as the “container” is the mountain herself, and the sculptures are built in the nature, or “with the nature”, being in this way an integral part of the nature.

In fact, the visit is a walk in the woods, discovering, step by step, the natural sculptures.

The visit is surprising, and expecting the unexpected is the rule, in visiting this museum.

Without a specific indication (that is easy to find) feel free to touch, and also to enter, inside the sculptures.

How to reach Artesella:

The place can be easily reached by car. You have to park the car in a beautiful parking area, 1 Km before to reach the entrance of the Museum. The last Kilometer is a wonderful and easy walk in the nature.

A more interesting experience is to reach Artesella by train plus electric bike: you can reach Borgo Valsugana by train then, from there, you can rent an electric bike to reach the museum.

Where to stay:

In the area you will find a lot of beautiful Hotels, but also (my first choice) several B&B and farmhouses, to make your visit unforgettable.

@ErmesT , now I did re read the post and due to the tour I have had with my daughter today, I could really feel how your trip was. Maybe also because the north side of the Alps has something similar from the point of color…

Looking forward to see you and your wife soon.

Thank you @LucioV

My Idea is to go there in winter, when everything is covered by snow

Italy is plenty of hidden treasures, mostly known only by a restricted elite of arts lovers.

Nature is art by definition, so making arts on a natural feature is a big challenge.

Yes, we need more local guides to share the beauty of Italy

@ErmesT It was absolutely worth while paying a visit to Arte Sella. The landscape in Dolomiti is amazing, the colors are very bright (even if it was cloudy) , green is greener and greener.

Arte Sella is a perfect example of sustainable art and tourism. Human being is part of Nature and Nature is part of Human Being in an endless circle. You can visit the installations at your own pace. My favourite part was going inside the installations and seeing shadow and light…

Or moving around triangles

Enjoy the visit!
