A visit to 10 MW floting grid-connected solar plant

Hii all LG family members,
Recently I have visited a floting grid-connected power plant , which is situated in Ajodhya Hills, Barria Mouza, Baghmundi in Purulia District of West Bengal.
Here is a quick pointwise overview of the 10 MW Floating Grid-Connected Solar Power Plant:

Detailed Project work:

  1. Locality: Ajodhya Upper Dam, Purulia, West Bengal, India
  2. Overall Capacity: 10 MW
  3. Type of plant: Floating Grid-Connected Solar Power Plant
  4. Developed by: WBSEDCL

Few main features are:

  1. Floating Solar Power Plat: Floating solar panels installed over the water situated at Upper dam.
  2. Connectivity: This plant is mainly connected to the grid to supply clean energy to the nearby areas.
  3. Source of Renewable Energy: As we all know that solar energy is a eco friendly that’s why there no harm to any water animals, or environment as it is free from pollution.
  4. Conservation of water: This floating solar panels mainly helps to reduce the evaporation of water from the water reservoir.

Benefits of Floting grid-connected solar plant:

  1. Generation of clean energy: This plant generates nearly 10 MW of clean energy, it is also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. Creation of local job opportunities: This project created local employment opportunities to nearby village people during construction and operation.
  3. Economic Growth: This plant contributes in various way to grow the local economy through taxes & revenue generation.
  4. Conservation of environment: This solar project mainly promotes the sustainable development as well as environmental conservation.

This is innovation, first time I have heard of this floating solar panel. How many villages or cities are getting powered? What about the life of fishes in the water? What happens when the dam floods anyday, what parameters are protecting the environment then?
Kindly answer such questions too as everything that is created has pros and cons

Nice photo of the solar plant @PatraSomnath
I have heard about a floating solar plant first time
You are lucky to have visited to one such plant :+1:

Thanks @ShreyaMusings for your valueable questions. I am trying to give the anwers as per my knowledge and locally gathered information.
Actually this is not the first time the floating solar plant developed and working, previously in other states such as

  1. Omkareshwar Floating Solar Power Project, MP.
  2. Ramagundam Floating Solar Project, Telengana.
  3. Kayamkulam Floating Solar Power Plant, Kerela
  4. Simhadri Floating Solar Power Project, AP
  5. Rihand Dam Floating Solar Power Plant, UP and many more.

Now this 10MW plants still is not fully functional yet as the work is still going on. Regarding the water animals, as you know generation of solar energy is free from pollution, and this floting structure also prevents the evaporation of water from the reservoir, as in summer this area is too much hot near about 45° so it will help in another way to water animals.
If the dam floods though the chances are rare in this area, there is sufficient measure by local authority to prevent any misfortune in future.

There are lots of floting solar power plants in india now … Mostly because it’s way more efficient… NTPC Kayamkulam Floating Solar Power Plant is one such example from my state.

Interesting information, @PatraSomnath ji. Even I heard about this for the first time. It is good to know sustainable growth around this vicinity. We need more such energy generation projects throughout rural India.

Cheers!
