A very cute village in France to discover : Espelette

Espelette is famous for their iconic bordeaux color peppers, they are not strong and with a delicate flavor. Some chef are using them quite a lot in this region called the pays basque. You can see these peppers hanging out as decoration on homes, with local colors white and red which are a good match.

These pepper could be kept quite long time at room temperature so you can buy some and hang them in your kitchen or dining room, using them from time to time whenever you want to spice up some of your dishes.

Another specialty for the region is their gateau basque with custard or black cherry flavor, I do prefer the black cherry as they are the local specie growing there and are huge and sweet (called in french cerises noires d’Itxassou).

These cherry are used to produce jam do not hesitate to buy yourself a couple jars and bring them back as souvenir it taste very nice on toast during breakfast.

People from there love to eat it with their local goat cheese (such as this one which really taste good:fromage de brebis AOP Ossau-Iraty)
