As a suburbanite of Dallas, TX, I find any excuse I can to “leave the island” (the local term for crossing our town’s lake thereby leaving the town). I love where I live for many reasons, but the food is not one of them. Therefore, this Valentine’s weekend, my husband and I as well as 2 other fellow suburban couples decided to take advantage of the weekend and enjoy a triple date to Uptown, Dallas.
We started the night at modern, Italian-inspired restaurant, Sixty Vines. This locally owned small chain is a favorite of mine. I love trying new places, but this one is special. I keep coming back because of this. There are 39 wines on tap presented to each guest as a place mat menu. I used to have the server surprise me with a red flight, but now I have my favorites and can’t help but order those over and over. 20 beers and cold brew coffee make up the other 21 taps or “vines” of the restaurant. I confess it took me a few visits to figure this out. Our dinner was very European in feel–not rushed. We had plenty of time to enjoy our appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
Not ready to part ways after our dinner ended, we walked a short distance to another locally owned small chain, Ascension coffee. This is a favorite of mine in the area. Each drink is hand crafted and absolutely delicious. We sat and enjoyed our cappuccinos and lattes. It was the perfect cap to our night.
This combination made a delicious evening in a great area. There’s just so much here for local and out-of-towners to enjoy. Both the restaurant and coffee shop we visited are part of the Crescent Court at the Crescent Hotel. As we walked through the hotel, it was filled with patrons ready to explore the city or just grabbing a drink at the beautiful and trendy bar. The courtyard outside was lit with twinkle lights and had benches making it the perfect romantic spot for couples on a stroll. Walking distance from so much more, it’s obvious why this area is so popular.
