As per the #monthlytopic August 2020 initiated by @HiroyukiTakisawa, here I want to show you all the interesting tree near me. I live inside “Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali”. While on morning walk, I found one interesting tree. I mentioned interesting because it’s a tree within the another tree. You can see in the photo that, the Palm Tree is totally surrounded by a Banyan Tree. I observed the Palm Tree is at the Center of Banyan Tree. The location of the tree is known as “Deer Views” on maps. Tree is located along the National Park - Kanheri Caves Road near Chinch Pada village.
It’s really a miraculous that both trees are at one place. The roots of the two must have been intertwined. In spite of this, the Palm fruits is always available there, one of the local resident told me.
I did search on the Google regarding such growing of the the two trees together, which is known as “Inosculation”. It is similar like natural grafting of the trunks or branches of the two trees. The tree I shown you is Conjoined Trees because both are of different genre. Such trees are also called as Husband-Wife tree or Marriage Trees. I have not heard about this before, by seeing this tree and while posting this post, i came to know about this phenomenon. Isn’t it really interesting? Thanks for sharing breathtaking monsoon views of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
I have seen Peepal and Banyan trees growing as conjugated and also Peepal and Neem growing together as conjugated quite frequently.
But Palm and Peepal combo is new especially since the palm is a tropical tree and perhaps also not a native whereas the Banyan is a typical sub-tropical or temperate tree IIRC.
