I was inspired to write this post after reading several wonderful stories from friends sharing about their pins. With ConnectLIVE Mexico approaching so soon, I felt it was the perfect time to reflect on this.
I still vividly remember the incredible feeling of handing out the “Local Guides Avenger” pins back in 2018 after the Summit. Seeing the genuine smiles of fellow Local Guides who couldn’t attend the event, but felt connected through that small token, was truly priceless. It taught me early on that a Local Guides pin is never just a piece of metal; it’s a symbol of belonging.
Fast forward to ConnectLIVE Singapore 2026, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to bring home extra pins once again. My intention has always remained the same: to share the vibrant energy of ConnectLIVE 2026 with our broader community in Indonesia. I distributed them in several ways:
Through social media giveaways that asked followers to share their expectations for future ConnectLIVE events. It was truly inspiring to read their opinions on why the event is so necessary, making it quite difficult to select the winners!
Mailing them directly to close friends and social media community admins across Java; like @marchiano and @Jee for Blitar Local Guides, Mas @ALG87 for Central Java Local Guides, some friends in Malang Local Guides and handing them out in person during our sharing session meetup about ConnectLIVE Singapore 2026 together with attendees from East Java area at EJSC co-working space Malang.
Of course, I made sure to give one set colors of pins to @NyaiNurjanah that she could not make this year event (check her post in here). I also gave a dozen pins to the host of Indonesia mega meet up MUN Bali 2026, @irwinraditya (ditunggu potonya yak!), shortly after returning from Singapore, hoping to spread the joy even further, as well as a few other friends like @Adiyantosukardi168, @ZulfiaKholifah, @RiverDefender (Thanks @Dhatuardhan and @Dinithea for helping me to share the pins during the mega meet up last week in Bali).
For me, the act of giving these pins away brings its own unique kind of happiness. The true magic of these souvenirs is how they carry the positive vibrations of a global event to everyone who contributes to the map, regardless of whether they were able to attend or not.
Because I was so focused on connecting with everyone in person, I am sorry that I don’t have many photos of everyone receiving them (I really wish I had taken more!), but the happiness on their faces (like @JeffryRisandy and @Wilda_Uliarosa) when they got the new logo pin was undeniable.
Because of the massive impact these small gifts have, I truly hope that the tradition of providing extra pins, or other similar souvenirs for the community, through ConnectLIVE attendees or community leaders continues in the years to come. Entrusting us to bring a piece of the event back home is a brilliant way to keep the wider community inspired and deeply connected to the program. A simple Local Guides pin, or any similar community souvenir, goes a long way in motivating our fellow Local Guides to keep exploring and contributing.
Finally, thank you to the Google team for bringing ConnectLIVE back, with a special mention to @Kristen_NYC, @TinaWill, @Latika_Malhotra, @David_K, and @TiffanyBnyc. We look forward to more exciting events in the future. Wishing you all the best for a fantastic ConnectLIVE Mexico this October!
