Eight years ago, I set foot on a Buddhist Temple known as Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya. This temple is said to be the biggest temple in Southeast Asia. The temple was built in 1991 to give special honor to Maitreya who is prophesied to be the next Buddha. It is said that he will appear on Earth in the future, achieve complete enlightenment and teach the pure dharma.
You can find statues of Maitreya in almost every corner of the building. There are also other Buddha Statues inside the temple as well as outside.
According to the legend, if you rub Buddha’s belly, you will achieve happiness, prosperity and good luck. It is said that the belief was developed from a Chinese Proverb of the Laughing Buddha.
Laughing Buddha provides us motivation and a positive mental attitude to face our day looking at the bright side of life. No matter what we are facing everyday especially at this moment of pandemic, let’s not forget to smile and see the light in every situation.
