A temple - how it is connected to our lives

A temple

For us Hindus, temples are places of worship and linked to so many events in our lives.

A baby at 6 months age is taken to temple for the ritual of giving the first solid feed in the presence of the family’s favorite God or Goddess.

Then before 3 years, again, with many relatives and festivity he or she is again taken to the temple for the ritual of introduction to the world of learning. With a golden ring, the temple priest writes on the child’s tongue the first alphabet and initiates him to the amazing tour he has to take onwards.

Then the next major event to take place in connection to a temple is the marriage of the person. Today with the change in culture of having marriages in marriage halls, this is happening less often, still some of us still prefer doing it in the temples, the mangalsootra or the golden chain is tied around the girl’s neck in the presence of the family’s favorite deity.

These are just few events that happen in a person’s life in connection to the God or Goddess. There are still more. Maybe another time.

These two are pictures of the inside of a famous temple in Kannur, Kerala, India. We call it the Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple.
