A story of a beautiful river in Nigeria that got poisoned.

About two years ago this photo was taken at a small town when our school team for social impact program (ENACTUS) went for needs assessment.

A small community called Bagegga in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State was faced with an epidemic spread due to lead poisoning after series of illegal mining activities of gold and other resources. This led to soil infertility and access to portable water became a problem, leading to about 170 deaths which 111 were children.

In effort to halt the spread, authorities have shut down all illegal mining activities were stopped and residents evacuated.

This is where we decided to execute our project in helping the community with sustainable solution. The rising hope project!
