As a Local Guide, I often look beyond the experience of a place and pay attention to the thoughtful practices that contribute to a more sustainable future. Whenever I visit a new place, I consciously observe sustainability initiatives and make efforts to highlight them through Google Maps; whether by updating relevant attributes, answering sustainability-related questions, or sharing photos, videos and reviews that create awareness among the community.
During my stay at Amara Singapore, I came across several simple yet impactful sustainability initiatives that demonstrate how responsible choices can be seamlessly integrated into the guest experience.
Refillable Wall-Mounted Toiletry Dispensers
One of the first things that caught my attention was the use of refillable wall-mounted dispensers in the washroom, replacing single-use plastic toiletry bottles. This thoughtful initiative not only helps reduce plastic waste but also ensures convenience and comfort for guests. It beautifully resonates with the sustainability practices I had highlighted in my earlier post, reinforcing how small, mindful choices can create a meaningful environmental impact.

Filtered Water Tap for Sustainable Hydration
Instead of depending on bottled water, the room provided access to a dedicated filtered water tap, offering high-quality drinking water that is safe to consume. A small change, but a meaningful step toward reducing single-use plastic consumption.

Convenient Waste Segregation for Responsible Disposal
The clearly marked waste bins with recycling identification encourage guests to separate recyclable and general waste easily. Making responsible disposal convenient helps create greater participation in sustainable practices.

A Message That Inspires Conscious Choices
A simple in-room sustainability message also reflected the hotel’s commitment to environmental responsibility, reminding guests that everyday choices can collectively contribute to a greener future.
What impressed me most about these initiatives was their simplicity. ‘Sustainability does not always require complex technology or large-scale interventions. Sometimes, it begins with thoughtful design, responsible choices, and making sustainable options easier for everyone.’
As Local Guides, we have a wonderful opportunity and responsibility to observe, document, and celebrate such practices. By sharing these experiences, we can inspire more awareness and encourage places to embrace sustainable approaches.
Since recycling-related attributes for this location were not available on Google Maps, I could not directly update them through the available options.
