Travel is something I enjoy and I have been travelling since I was seven months old. I have also realized that as a Local Guide you are a guide for locations for not just your city but for all over the world! I’ve visited countries with my family and friends but one particular trip stands out in my mind, and that was the weekend I spent in Boston.
I believe in sharing experiences, whether it be food, sights, smells, music, but this time I did that all on my own. From the hotel, I mapped out my route that I would take on foot. I walked along a few streets that made me think that this was clearly the original architecture from its time and was happy to be enveloped in the history. Off I went, trekking through the Boston Commons, just observing the tourists, locals and all the buzz of summer. Outside the perimeter of the commons, I walked up this grand staircase to see the Massachucets State House.
From there I walked along looking up and stumbled upon The Boston Athenaum! This was a beautiful accident. Here, I managed to explore the beautiful world of the written word. The space was just breathtaking and so well maintained, even though the building was built in 1847. To this day, if a friend is visiting Boston, I highly recommend just walking around the Athenaeum. I continued to my next destination, which was the Town Hall but passed by The Stone Chapel along the way.
It was a wonderful building that was open to visitors, and you could tell by the crowd inside and the various plaques, that they were happy to showcase the history of the building,
After that i made my way to the town Hall, didn’t make it in but in my the building from the outside. You cannot help but drink in all the history that is available around you.
Next up, was the scene of the Boston massacre, it is quite eerie to stand there and to recall what exactly happened at that point in history, I was standing on such an infamous piece of it. The little museum was very informative with many dressed in period costumes. It was certainly something to be admired.
After all this walking I started to get hungry and let my nose guide me to Faneuil Hall. It was honestly better than I ever thought it would be, it was a feast for the eyes, ears and nose. There was several different options, sorry correction hundreds of options from restaurants to standalone vendors and it was all ready for the taking.
I managed to pick up some merchandise to give us presents for my family also treated myself to some oysters and dessert. There was so many food options and I knew I had to come back again. That was the cherry on top for the day of walking and exploring. By this point, I already had a good 20, 000 steps under my belt, but I could have kept going.
Boston reminded me of the things that I had forgotten I loved, architecture, history, music, and having all that wrapped into one day was what made this experience my best one as a Local Guide. This post doesnt do the wonderful day I had, any justice. I can certainly confirm though that it was the start of many lone adventures and I will continue to share my stories with you as a Local Guide.
